Old Forester’s 2024 Birthday Bourbon Sweepstakes is open right now
1,000 winners will be able to buy a bottle for $200
These resell for hundreds, but the bottles must be picked up in person
Do you live in or around Louisville, Kentucky, or don’t mind making the trip out there later this year? Old Forester is holding a raffle for their Birthday Bourbon right now, and 1,000 lucky winners will have the opportunity to buy a bottle at MSRP. Rare whiskies like this are extremely popular with collectors, and we’ve seen similar bottles flip for hundreds in the past. The only catch is that you need to claim your bottle in person at their Louisville distillery.
Even if you hate whisky (shame!), this raffle is worth paying attention to. Every year, Old Forester selects some of their finest 12-year bourbon to be released as that year’s “Birthday Bourbon“.
The tradition calls back to the distillery’s founder, George Garvin Brown, and is a celebration of his birthday more than 150 years later.
The bourbon produced is unique in both flavor and presentation, and exceptionally rare. For 2024, just 1,000 bottles of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon will be produced. Like previous years, they will be distributed through a raffle which is open right now.
Here’s how it works: head over to Old Forester’s website and enter the sweepstakes here. You must be 21+ (duh), and a legal resident of the United States. The entry period will be open until 9 A.M. Eastern on August 21.
1,000 winners will be given the opportunity to buy a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon at its MSRP of $200. Old Forester will notify winners by email on or about the 29th.
Now here’s the catch; these bottles will not be shipped to you. If you manage to win a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, you must pick up it up, in person, at their distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, making this a bit of a regional opportunity.
Winners MUST present a valid photo ID with matching first and last names AND date of birth to claim their bottle. That means that you cannot resell a winning sweepstakes ticket to someone else. Winners will be able to buy their bottle from September 5 to December 14.
And if you’re thinking you might try swinging by the distillery to buy a bottle without entering the sweeps, you’re out of luck. These bottles will only be distributed via sweepstakes; none will be available through traditional retail.
If you’re close enough to Louisville to even consider making the trip, we strongly recommend entering the sweepstakes. There is absolutely not question that these bottles will flip for much more than Old Forester is asking for them.
Past Birthday Bourbons routinely resell for upwards of $1,000 through websites like Wine Searcher and The Barrel Tap. Premium whisky resellers are already listing the 2024 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon for similar prices, ahead of its release.
The bottom line? This is an absolute no-brainer for anyone living within a few hours of Louisville. If you’re lucky enough to win, you’ll be coming home with a either a few hundred bucks in profit, or a seriously tasty bottle of bourbon.
Drink it, flip it, put it on your shelf; we don’t care. This opportunity only comes by once a year, so don’t let it pass you by.
