SpaceX restocked the Starship Torch earlier this month
They cost $175 and have been sold out for months
Resellers have flipped them for more than $300
If you missed the news, SpaceX recorded the fourth successful launch of their “Starship” shuttle earlier this month. To celebrate, Starship Handheld Torches restocked on the SpaceX webstore. These have been very popular products with Elon Musk’s many adoring fans, and resellers have had success flipping them in the past. This restock was no exception, and plenty more profit has been rolling in all month long. Let’s take a look.
Remember when the future meant electric cars, artificial intelligence, and immersive virtual reality? Instead we got the Cybertruck, ChatGPT and Midjourney ripping up half the economy, and Meta’s incredibly innovative virtual conference rooms.
And while household robots are still a ways off, you at least can get a Roomba at Walmart. Fortunately, there’s one African-American billionaire keeping the dream of tomorrow’s tech today alive. Yes, Mr. X, formerly Twitter himself, Elon Musk.
SpaceX is just one of his obnoxiously branded ventures. Civilian spaceflight has been somewhere between a pipedream and real possibility over the last few companies, and SpaceX is aiming to put you on Mars (for some reason).
One of their projects is the “Starship” shuttle. This a reusable spacecraft designed to launch and return people and cargo again and again. Starship made its fourth successful flight test on June 6, launching from Texas and splashing down in the Indian Ocean just over an hour later.
This is an impressive achievement. If regular, routine spaceflight actually comes around, reusable spacecraft is a necessity. Imagine if every plane you got on was scrapped after the flight.
To celebrate, SpaceX restocked one of their most popular pieces of merchandise: the Starship Torch. This is a handheld torch designed to look like its namesake that can be used like any standard butane torch.
Crème brûlée, cigarettes, burning sensitive documents; do with it what you like. The SpaceX Starship Torch costs $175, and has been sold out for more than six months. We wrote about it back in November, and at the time they were reselling for more than $300.
And now the eagle has landed. Again. With so many desperate spaceflight enthusiasts hankering over these torches, Elon has graciously granted them another chance to give him money.
But why should he have all the fun? Just because he has a bunch of houses, kids, and businesses in the red? Fortunately for us, these Torches are so popular that not only do they sell out, but they also resell.
Right now, a SpaceX Starship Torch is reselling for $250 to $350. We’ve seen a pretty healthy volume of sales since launch day.
All in all, this wasn’t a huge surprise. We knew these were popular, and we knew they had resold before. With the extra hype around the Starship launch, there was nothing but green flags to go around.
As of this article’s publication, the SpaceX Starship Torch is still in stock on SpaceX’s webstore. There might have been a minor restock in the last few days, or SpaceX is just processing cancellations and updating stock.
Sales have definitely slowed down in the last few days. If you decide to make a purchase, make sure you know what you’re getting into. SpaceX offers refunds for items within 30 days of delivery in their original packaging, and charges an $8 fee.
In the meantime, pay attention for more Starship launches. The hype train really takes off afterwards, and that translates to major profits for resellers. Subscribe to our newsletter if you want to stay updated.
