Ok, the dust has settled, the day has passed, and the money is pouring in. Record Store Day 2024 was last Saturday, and tons of new vinyl and exclusive merch was sold for a limited amount of time. Resellers were treated to an absolute feast all weekend long. How did they do? What were the biggest, juiciest flips? Let’s take a look, and try not to be too jealous.

What is Record Store Day?

So first, just what are we talking about? If you’re a part-time reseller or you just don’t read our blog all that much, you might have missed it.

Record Store Day is a yearly event where record stores across the country open the doors to sell music. Vinyl is a major emphasis, but there are also CDs, cassettes, and music-related merch like posters and prints.

Both artists and distributors work together to create unique products for RSD. Some of the vinyl pressed for this event are one-off, miss-it-and-you-missed-it offerings. Big artists, little artists, major chains, and local record stores all participate.

It’s been a tradition since 2007. Over the years it’s grown quite significantly, and now fans and resellers can expect incredible opportunities every April.

Record Store Day 2024 was held on 4/20 this year. Between new vinyl and unique merch, this was one of the biggest RSDs in reselling history.

Here are some of the highlights:

Taylor Swift Record Store Day TTPD Note

If you’ve been following previous Record Store Day releases, finding Taylor Swift at the top of our list shouldn’t be a surprise.

Her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department” just dropped (along with a 15 song bonus album). TTPD was not an official Record Store Day release, but there were special versions produced. These included a note “from the desk of Taylor Swift”, which her fans are currently going feral for.

Taylor has previously served as an ambassador for Record Store Day, and usually creates unique offerings for her fans every April.

Right now, Record Store Day versions of “The Tortured Poets Department” are reselling for about $120, and some sellers have managed to flip the notes by themselves for upwards of $50. That’s more than the vinyl itself retailed for.

Being the biggest popstar on the planet has some perks, like being able to sell autopenned versions of your handwriting for ridiculous prices.

The Beatles RSD Mini Turntable

Here’s a fun one. It’s been a long time since their debut, but The Beatles are still quite a big deal.

For Record Store Day 2024, Crosley Radio produced special mini turntables as a celebration of The Beatles first American tour in 1964. Crosley is also one of the original sponsors of Record Store Day, so the timing is pretty much perfect.

These turntables were $180. They included four 3″ vinyl records of some The Beatles earliest hits. It connects through Bluetooth, and also comes with a carrying case. Resellers have been flipping them for over $300 since Saturday.

You needed to have called around to local stores and seen if they were stocking them though, as this was a pretty limited item. Easy profit if you snagged one though.

100 Gecs Snake Eyes Weed Vinyl

Would you look at that. It’s vinyl shaped like a weed leaf! What will these crazy kids think of next.

“Snake Eyes” is a three song EP from 100 Gecs featuring several new songs that have never received a physical release. Fans of the band were only able to snag one these vinyl from a participating location during Record Store Day 2024.

And like most things popular and rare, they sold out fast. Resellers are now flipping the “Snake Eyes” EP for about $50 at a time, up from $20 retail.

The bottom line is that this year’s lineup was pretty well stuffed with unique offerings. Resellers have been making tons of cash flipping records from artists like Young Thug, The 1975, Nas, The Cranberries, Lil Peep, and way more.

RC Elite members were tipped off early about this event, and provided with a guide to everything worth flipping. They were told to look for Taylor Swift’s special TTPD vinyl records, and plugged in with local stores to check availability of the best items.

In short, they had a cheat code that let them skip the risk involved with reselling and move straight to the profits.
