The new Disney Topps Chrome set just dropped through Topps UK
Sets cost £150 (about $190 USD)
Resellers are flipping them for upwards of $300
Earlier this week, a new set of Topps trading cards dropped. The new Disney Topps set is the first time Disney characters have appeared in a Topps Chrome set. This was a surprise drop that seemingly came out of nowhere, and was exclusive to the UK Topps site. Now, British resellers that managed to snag sets before they sold out are flipping them for a remarkable profit.
So, this is not the first time Disney and Topps have collaborated. In 2019, the companies worked together to launch the Disney Collect! app. It’s essentially a digital trading card platform where fans can buy, rip, and trade digital cards based on Disney characters.
The platform has been fairly successful over the last few years, and now it seems like they’ve decided to bring things into the real world.
2023 marks Disney’s 100th anniversary, so what better time to celebrate the brand’s legacy? The Disney Topps Chrome set dropped on December 13 exclusively through Topps UK, and the reception has been great.
Every Disney Topps Chrome set includes 18 packs with 4 cards each, 4 numbered parallels, 3 “Iconic Moments” inserts, 2 “Stitch in Costume” inserts, and 1 “Off the Page” insert.
The base set includes 100 different possible cards. Check here for a full list of possible cards and inserts.
There are a ton of special cards to be found in the set. Topps has published that there are 17 potential 1/1 “Platinum” character cards, as well as dual and quad autograph cards that are also highly limited.
The rarest card in the new Disney Topps Chrome set is a four-way autograph card featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto as a superfractor.
Only one of these cards has been printed, and Topps has published the odds of finding it as 1:128,960. For the hard-boiled Disney collectors out here, this one is worth mortgaging the house for. Probably.
When these sets went live on the Topps UK website, they were definitely a surprise. At £150 GBP (around $190 USD), this was a pretty expensive set, but that didn’t seem to bother people much.
It took under an hour for all of the sets to sell out. Now that they’re gone, UK based resellers have been flipping them for a tidy profit. Right now, Disney Topps Chrome sets are reselling for about $300 at a time.
At under $200 a box retail, this drop has netted the resellers that got in around $100 or more in profit. Quantity limits were pretty generous as well, and many sellers were able to secure entire cases of 10 sets at a time.
Unfortunately these were pretty hard to take advantage of if you were outside the UK. Topps was not offering direct shipping to US customers, so without a connection or reshipper in the UK, these were a miss.
