Key Points

  • Step2 is selling a Christmas tree themed toy for young children

  • The $65 toys are extremely popular and frequently sold out

  • They’re reselling for upwards of $120, and will only get more popular

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! At least, it is for resellers. Yes, we’re only one day into Fall, but things move fast this time of year, and there’s no better time to get started on your holiday shopping. We’ve been covering Halloween decorations through Summer, and now it’s time to talk Christmas. Step2 “My First Christmas Tree” decorations are a toy designed for toddlers, but resellers are looking at them as an investment. Many of these trees have sold out everywhere, and they will resell for double or more what they retail for.

Step2 My First Christmas Tree

Everyone loves a good Christmas tree. Whether you prefer the ease of a plastic model, or you’re a purist that insists on a real Douglas fir, a fully decorated tree goes a long way towards establishing a festive mood.

For kids, Step2 manufactures a special Christmas tree toy. “My First Christmas Tree” is a product designed to look like a real tree (sort of), but in a size and shape perfect for toddlers. There are various slots around the tree that fit the included ornaments, and the top of the tree can be capped with a star.

It also includes the best part of any Christmas tree, the train! All together, it’s a perfect way to involve young children in the tree-decorating process, but without worrying about them breaking ornaments or getting poked by branches or needles.

The Step2 My First Christmas Tree toy is sold through Step2’s site, and also through retailers like Target and Walmart for $65. In previous years, Step2 sold a similar version of the tree with lights and Christmas songs, but this version has been discontinued. The current model is just the plastic tree and ornaments, with no additional features.

These Christmas trees have proved extremely popular. Kids apparently love them, and they are frequently sold out pretty much everywhere. Fortunately, there’s always a solution to this kind of problem.

Step2 Christmas Trees Resell

Because of the seasonal nature of Christmas and holiday decorations, popular products tend to sell out. Manufacturers must anticipate demand ahead of time and scale their production accordingly. If those products end up being more popular than they planned for, they will end up selling out, and the manufacturer usually isn’t able to scale up production in time for the holiday.

Right now is the best time to buy holiday decorations. Many of the most popular designs will start selling out soon, and in the case of these kids’ Christmas trees they already are. Currently, Step2 My First Christmas Trees are reselling for around $120.

That’s for sealed boxes only. Pre-owned, opened, or otherwise used toys are generally not that popular with parents, so this is primarily a reseller’s market. Not that we’re complaining.

These toys have been reselling at this price since August, and sales will not be slowing down soon. Next time you’re at the store, check the seasonal and kids’ aisles for them. If you manage to pick one up, you can easily turn around and flip it the same day for double what you paid.
