Key Points

  • A special run of promotional posters for the Dead & Co tour was sold on June 14

  • Three varieties of prints were produced, two limited to 300, and one to 100

  • The collection was the work of artist AJ Masthay, and all prints are signed and hand-numbered

Wednesday saw the release of a special promotional poster for Dead & Company’s final tour. Artist AJ Masthay produced a very limited run of prints, which were sold through Bottleneck Gallery. The posters feature a blend of both Grateful Dead and baseball iconography, with towering skeletons relaxing outside of Wrigley Field. After selling out online, it didn’t take resellers long to start listing them for sale and making profit.

Dead & Co Wrigley Field Poster prints

Produced to commemorate Dead & Company’s final tour in 2023, these posters are a visual treat for any Grateful Dead fan. They are designed as a diptych, two separate artworks that combine to form a greater whole.

The left poster depicts the iconic skull-and-roses skeleton that’s been a mainstay in Grateful Dead imagery for decades, while the right shows the “Uncle Sam Skeleton” that occasionally appears on posters. All throughout the artwork are various references and easter eggs discernible only to a true Deadhead. The Grateful Dead has a history of playing shows in baseball stadiums as well, if you’re wondering about the whole baseball thing.

In fact, many of the shows during Dead & Company’s summer tour are at some of America’s most prestigious ballparks. Their stop at Wrigley Field on June 9 featured this poster, and they have additional concerts planned at Fenway and Citi Field.

These posters were produced by AJ Masthay, a Connecticut artist with a large portfolio of work done for bands. This isn’t the first time he’s made a poster for Dead & Company.

The collection was split into three different sales: the left poster, the right poster, and an uncut diptych featuring both artworks. Individual Dead & Company Wrigley Field posters sold for $75 and were limited to 300, while the combined posters were $150, limited to 100. All the artwork sold in the collection was signed and hand-numbered.

Dead and Company Wrigley Field Posters resell

Following the sale on Wednesday, a number of Dead & Co posters were picked up by resellers. It didn’t take long for listings to go up on eBay, and sales are already rolling in.

Currently, the Dead & Company Wrigley Field posters by AJ Masthay are reselling for around $200 individually. The uncut diptychs are reselling for somewhere around $350 to $400, with some sales exceeding the $500 mark.

AJ Masthay has clearly knocked it out of the park with this one. Considering that this is Dead & Company’s final tour (or at least that’s what they’re saying), it represents an opportunity for fans to get off their asses and pick up some merch while they can. In this case, that means buying it off a reseller at an inflated price. Oh well, you snooze you lose.
