Here’s an opportunity to make some quick money on your next trip to Ulta. Zuru Mini Brands has launched a limited time collaboration with Ulta. The collectable balls are hitting stores across the country right now, and collectors and resellers will be competing over them. There are a few tricks you can use to get the most value for your money, and with a little luck this collaboration could be very profitable. Let’s get started.

As of this weekend, the toymaker Zuru has launched a new addition to their Mini Brands line featuring Ulta. The collection includes 68 different miniature replicas of various Ulta products. Mini lipsticks, eyeliners and makeup kits, and cameo appearances from brands like ELF and NYX are also included.

Each toy is sold as a ball for $10. Inside the balls are five different cosmetics, picked at random. Some of these are much rarer than others, and labeled as “Ultra-Rare Frozen Moment minis”.

You might be familiar with a similar product called MGA’s Miniverse. We’ve covered MGA’s toys before, and have seen them resell for several times what they retail for.

There’s a few tricks here that make these toys appealing to a reseller. While you can’t know for sure what miniatures are sealed in each ball without opening it, you can actually weigh the balls to get a better idea.

Collectors will usually post a list of weights to look for following the sale. You can simply buy up a bunch of balls in one visit, then weigh them at home. You keep the valuable ones, then return the rest.

And even though the collection just launched, we’ve already begun to see resellers flipping them for a profit. It’s not too late to buy them at retail, but the way things are going we don’t expect to see them in stock for long.

Right now, Zuru Mini Brands Ulta balls are reselling for around $20 at a time. Resellers are mainly focusing on flipping the unopened balls en masse for easy profit, and collectors seem fine with that.

It will take a little time for a comprehensive list of ball variants and weights to be published. Once this happens, both resellers are collectors will begin competing over the rarest variants. Expect to see prices for unopened balls fall and a market for rare minis to take overnight.
