Sold-out Orchid keyboards are dropping this month
The original drop consisted of 1,000 keyboards for $549
Resellers flipped them for up to $1,400
It’s (almost) time to make some money. The team behind Telepathic Instruments has announced that new orders for their super-popular Orchid synthesizer will be opening later this month. If you were around for the launch, you’ll remember just how lucrative of a flip this was. Resellers were regularly turning profits of $500 or more for each synth sold, so new stock is a new opportunity to make some cash. Let’s go over everything we know so far.
First, a little backstory. If you read our previous article on the Orchid or you’re just an impatient resellers (read: a reseller), you can skip down to the details on the upcoming release.
Telepathic Instruments is a musical instrument manufacturer that stealth-launched last year. It’s largely the brainchild of Kevin Parker AKA Tame Impala, and their primary product is the Orchid ORC-1000 synthesizer/keyboard/”Ideas Machine”.
It’s designed for musicians in the early outlining stages of creating music. You can play a melody, a chord, or even a single note and the Orchid will iterate on it. It’s ideal for playing with ideas or just a song stuck in your head before committing anything to paper.
The Orchid was extensively teased through Parker’s Instagram in 2024, with many Tame Impala fans interpreting it as an upcoming album.
Following its full reveal, Telepathic Instruments held a limited preliminary release for Orchid keyboards. These were priced at $549, and limited to just 1,000 units. Additionally, only US customers were able to participate in this initial drop.
After releasing December, these first Orchids sold out extremely fast. Telepathic Records password-protected the site and attempted to manage demand, but it was clear that 1,000 units was not nearly enough to go around.
Shortly after launch, Telepathic Instruments Orchid ORC-1000 keyboards began flipping for upwards of $1,000, with a significant string of sales for up to $1,400. These didn’t start shipping until February, so most sales are fairly recent.
For resellers that snagged one, the Orchid represents a potential profit of more than $800. Considering the $549 MSRP, this was one of the juiciest flips of 2024, and we’ve been eagerly waiting for news on a restock. Speaking of which…
Earlier this week, Telepathic Instruments updated their landing page with a banner announcing a major restock of the Orchid ORC-1000 keyboard.
Details are still pretty slim, but what we do know is that this restock is planned before the end of May 2025. Additionally, international buyers will be able to purchase an Orchid for the first time.
Telepathic Instrument’s Patreon also updated at the same time with some key information. They are encouraging everyone interested in the Orchid to register for the Drop 2 mailing list. You’ll need to provide some basic shipping info.
It’s also worth subscribing to Telepathic Instrument’s free Patreon, following them on social media, and joining their mailing list. Because of the Orchid’s immense popularity, Telepathic Instruments prefers to send out updates through these semi-private channels rather than broadcasting them publicly.
We’re not sure what the differences between the original ORC-1000 Orchid and the general release model might be. Telepathic Instruments has stated their goal for the original launch was to collect data and fine-tune the instrument, so there may be some additional features revealed this month.
Of course, we’ll be covering the restock and the market for the Orchid after it drops. We’re expecting these to remain quite limited and profitable, although maybe not as much as the original drop. If you’re looking for your next flip, take this as a sign and pay attention to Telepathic Instrument’s socials in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter. We’re hard at work covering the latest drops, flips, and opportunities to make a buck. Join the fun today.
