The Stanley craze might be over
Swift just dropped two new “The Life of a Showgirl” vinyl records
Both were available for $30 and limited to four per customer
Presale listings have sold for up to $80 at a time
Megastar and reseller darling Taylor Swift just dropped a new load of vinyl for her upcoming album “The Life of a Showgirl”. This marks the third release of limited, first-pressing vinyl for the record, and her fans continue to eat it up. Resellers were some of the first to arrive on the scene, and we’re looking at continued profits for anyone that’s been paying attention. Let’s get started.
Most artists are pretty vocal about how much they hate resellers, but not Taylor Swift. In fact, we might be her biggest fans.
Every time Taylor drops a new album, she also releases a massive collection of limited edition merch to accompany it. This usually consists of vinyl and CD variants in multiple colors. The content is the same, but her fans are compelled to collect them all even after they’ve sold.
And it seems like she’s getting things started right with her upcoming album “The Life of a Showgirl”. Although it’s set for an October release, she’s already released three limited edition vinyl variants in the last week. Today’s drop was the Champagne collection.
As with the previous collection, Taylor Swift’s “Life of a Showgirl” Champagne vinyl consisted of two vinyl records sold separately: “Under Bright Lights Pearlescent” and “Red Lipstick & Lace Transparent“. Both were sold for $30, and both are limited first-pressings, meaning they will not restock after selling out.
The collection went live at 1 P.M. PDT on August 25 through Taylor’s webstore. Each version included some assorted bonus goodies and were limited to a very generous 4 per customer. The collection will only be available for 48 hours, although it will sell out much sooner than that.
It seems like Taylor was allocating stock individually to different countries. As of this publication, the vinyl is still available for American customers, although it’s already sold on European and UK webstores.
So, worth buying? We certainly think so. If it was any other artist, Taylor’s habit of dropping a million different album variants to milk her audience would be seen as disrespectful, but her fans seem to love it. Resellers have had no trouble moving the previous vinyl for solid profits.
And we’re already seeing presale listings selling on eBay. Right now, Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” Champagne vinyl are reselling for around $80, although it’s hard to draw any concrete conclusions while the records are still in stock.
That comes out to around $50 in profit per record sold, theoretically adding up to a whopping $400 if a reseller was able to secure four copies of each vinyl variant. Again, it’s still early and these records are selling a little slower than we expected. We’ll be keeping our eyes on the market for now.
Missed out? There’s a good chance Taylor will be dropping more limited edition vinyl for “The Life of a Showgirl”. We’re still a month and change out from the album’s release, and we all know how much Taylor likes making money.
