Grab your spacesuit and sandwiches, because Starfield is go for launch. Bethesda’s upcoming superhit is their first game after 2015’s Fallout 4 (No, 76 doesn’t count). Gamers across the world are already coming up with excuses to get out of work on September 6. Of course, there’s also a devoted cadre of collectors who are desperate to get their hands on the rarest, most exclusive, and incredibly expensive pieces of merch for the game. One of these is the Starfield Explorer’s Bundle. As launch day grows near, these bundles have started to resell for more than $1,000. Let’s dive in.

What's in the Starfield Explorer's Bundle?

Now, reselling video game merch is nothing new. 2023 has been a landmark year for gamers, with hit after highly-anticipating hit coming after another. Starfield is probably the year’s biggest title, after being officially announced in 2018.

Baldur’s Gate 3 actually had its planned launch date moved up by a month to avoid competing with Starfield. Considering how monumentally well that game is currently doing, it speaks to just how much of a behemoth Starfield is looking to be.

We’ve talked about Starfield Collector’s Editions in a previous article, but the Explorer’s Bundle is its own thing. Actually, they don’t even come with a copy of the game. This is just straight up merch. Rare merch, but merch nonetheless.

Included in the Starfield Explorer’s Bundle is a scale model of the robot VASCO seen in the game, and a set of decals to pimp him out. The Starfield VASCO model stands 7.5 inches tall, weighs 3.6 pounds, and is not a toy, as Bethesda makes clear. The stickers included are all modeled on “achievement badges” that can be found in the game.

Starfield Explorer’s Bundles cost $175 when they were available as a preorder back in June. Even if robots aren’t your thing, these are notable for their rarity; only 800 total Starfield Explorer’s Bundles were sold. Globally. Knowing that will probably make the next section a little more understandable.

These bundles are so rare that it makes finding any extra information on them kind of hard. There’s no promo videos, no reviews (although they don’t ship until October so fair enough), no ~~Twitter~~ X announcements, just Reddit threads of shrieking fans that missed out.

And where you have nerds with too much money and very little patience, you’ll find a very good opportunity for resellers. Since these are so rare, there haven’t been a ton of sales, but the quickly approaching launch of Starfield has caused some to trade hands. Right now, Starfield Explorer’s Bundles are reselling for anywhere from $800 to $1,200.

Aside from the recent sales, there are a handful of unsold eBay listings for the bundles, all of which are over $1,000. Now that the market has been proven, don’t expect these prices to come down. Starfield is poised to be the biggest game of the last five years, and even another messy Bethesda-style launch wouldn’t affect that. Probably.
