Will the Nike Mind Shoes Resell?

The Nike Mind 001 is a mule (slip-on) that comes in gray, red, light bone, or black for $95. The Mind 002 is a laced athletic shoe in gray for $145. Both feature 22 foam nodes on the footbed that Nike claims activate sensory regions in your brain through pressure points on your feet.

According to Nike’s press materials, their Mind Science Department studied brain rhythms and muscle signals to develop this. The foam nodes move like pistons when you walk, which supposedly helps athletes feel more present and focused. It’s positioned as pre-game and post-game footwear, not for actual competition.

The designs are deliberately weird. Nike wanted them to look “directionless” to encourage wearers to slow down and be mindful. That’s either brilliant design philosophy or marketing speak for “they look strange,” depending on how generous you’re feeling.

We recommend focusing on the slides (mules) over the athletic shoe. These are generally getting more attention than the rest of the collection, and we’re guessing the shoe’s gimmick will be more popular with folks looking to lounge around the house than take them on a jog.

Focus on men’s sizes 8 through 12 if you’re buying to flip. That’s where the majority of sneaker resale activity happens. Women’s sizing follows similar patterns but with less overall volume.

It’s looking like these shoes will be sold through the Nike App, and they’re recommending you sign up for notifications ahead of the drop on January 8.

We think so. StockX opened presale listings in December, and many sellers have already started testing the market.

Most of the demand is centered around the red and light bone Nike Mind 001 variants, with the black and gray editions listed at lower prices. The 002 shoes see similar prices for asks and bids, but with a considerably lower volume.

Better yet, these (should) qualify for standard 60 day returns for Nike Members. Making an account is free, and you’ll probably need one anyways to purchase the shoes through the Nike App.

This is looking very promising early on. Still, things can change on drop day. Nike might’ve overproduced the shoes, or people might end up hating the Mind system. Nike seems fairly confident in it though, and we expect most people will appreciate it.

60 day returns make this essentially risk-free. Make sure you double check the wording on the shoe’s listing closer to drop day, as Nike may mark them as ineligible for returns. There’s no indication that they will, but these are a much, much riskier flip without the safety net of a return policy.
