To The Stars is selling new Tom DeLonge-endorsed Strats for $1,400
They are limited to 500 total units
Similar guitars have resold for up to $3,000
Whether you’re in the market for a new guitar, or just want to make a little extra cash, we’ve got an opportunity for you today. Tom DeLonge is selling a new and exclusive Stratocaster, limited to just 500 units. As a collaboration between Fender and DeLonge’s media company, To The Stars, these Strats are bespoke, well-made, and very cool. We’ve seen similar designs resell for thousands in the past, so we’re taking a close look at this one as well. Let’s get into it.
Don’t worry if you’re feeling some déjà vu; we’ve covered a very similar guitar recently. Back in November, To The Stars and Tom DeLonge produced a signature “Blackout” Strat that we wrote about here.
The Blackout guitars featured a black-on-black-on-black color scheme, with the sole accent of color coming from the vibrantly red volume knob. These were available on the To The Stars website for $1,500 and limited to 300 total units.
These new “Yeti” Strats are virtually identical in terms of specs. They’ve got the same “Invader” humbucker, 9.5″ rosewood fretboard, and solid maple neck. The obvious change is in the color scheme, which is inverted from black to white with chrome accents.
They are also slightly cheaper. The Tom DeLonge Yeti Strat is currently available for sale for $1,400, and is limited to 500 guitars. TTS expects them to start shipping in October. Customers are limited to one guitar, and there are no refunds.
For a collector, there are a few bits worth paying attention to. For one, all of the guitars will ship with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. The metal neckplate also features artwork and a signature from DeLonge.
Altogether, it’s a pretty cool guitar. $1,400 is… a lot for a Strat, but it might be worth it for a big enough fan of Tom DeLonge or Blink182.
But what about those of us looking at these guitars more as an investment piece than a musical instrument? Will they flip?
Well, we won’t make any promises. At $1,400, there’s a lot of risk involved. But the previous Blackout Strats were an excellent flip. At the time we wrote about them, the average sale was sitting at around $2,500.
That puts the resellers who got in early about $1,000 ahead, not counting shipping and seller’s fees. However, we also want to note that prices dropped significantly in the following months. The Blackout TTS guitars now resell for under $2,000.
That’s still profitable, but the margins are much tighter. With 200 extra units for the Yeti compared to the Blackout, there will be significantly more guitars in circulation this time.
The verdict? This is a risky flip. You’ll be tying up $1,400 in a guitar with a strict no-return, no-refund policy. If you don’t mind gambling or you have a spot in your collection for a new guitar, it could be right up your alley. The potential profit is nothing to sneeze at.
