These were one of the most lucrative flips of 2023
The cups were free with purchase of any Dunkin’ Protein Refresher, which start at $5 for a small
They resell for around $20 online with plenty of volume
Each participating store only received 20 cups total, creating instant scarcity
Dunkin’ Donuts partnered with Megan Thee Stallion this morning to launch a limited-edition “Hot Girls Run on Dunkin'” reusable cup. Each store only had 20 cups available, given free with any Protein Refresher purchase. Within minutes of the 10 a.m. launch, stores across the country were sold out. Social media quickly filled with frustrated fans who showed up right at opening only to find stores had already handed them out early or run out immediately. Now resellers are turning solid profits by flipping cheap plastic cups
The reusable cup featured Dunkin’s signature orange and pink gradient colors with “Hot Girls Run on Dunkin'” printed on the front. Megan’s signature, sealed with a neon heart, appeared across the cup. The design targeted the rapper’s fanbase, known as the Hotties, and tied into her ongoing collaboration with Dunkin’ to promote their new Protein Milk line.
Megan Thee Stallion’s partnership with Dunkin’ launched earlier in January, featuring protein-enhanced versions of their Refreshers line. The brand’s new Protein Milk allows customers to add 15 grams of protein to any beverage with a milk or non-dairy base.
Each store only received 20 cups total, making this one of the most limited Dunkin’ promotions in recent memory. For context, when Dunkin’ drops limited cups, they typically have a few hundred per location. Twenty units per store practically guaranteed instant sellouts.
The 10 a.m. launch time also created problems. Many customers complained that most people work at 10 a.m., making it impossible for working-class fans to participate. Several stores reportedly gave cups out before the official start time, further limiting availability for those who showed up at exactly 10 a.m.
Megan Thee Stallion’s massive fanbase combined with extremely limited supply created perfect resale conditions. The Hotties wanted their merch, stores couldn’t keep up with demand, and resellers filled the gap.
The cups hit eBay within hours of the 10 a.m. launch. Current listings are hovering around $20 each on both platforms, with some resellers listing slightly higher at $20-$25. The lowest starting bids on eBay began at $5, though most Buy It Now prices settled in the $20 range.
After eBay’s 13% fees and shipping costs, resellers are looking at around $12-15 profit per cup if they move at $20. Not massive margins, but for an item that cost $5-6 to acquire with a drink purchase, that’s respectable for zero investment risk.
The real opportunity was in volume. Some savvy resellers hit multiple Dunkin’ locations throughout the morning, scoring several cups before stores ran dry. With friendly baristas and a willingness to make multiple drink purchases, those who moved fast likely walked away with 5-10 cups across different stores.
Dunkin’ confirmed to media outlets that the cups were a limited-time offer with no restock planned. Once stores sold out, that was it. This makes current resale prices relatively stable since no additional supply will hit the market.
If you scored one or multiple cups this morning, listing them at $20 on eBay or Mercari should move them quickly. After fees and shipping, you’re looking at around $12-15 profit per cup, which is solid for essentially free merchandise with a drink purchase.
The opportunity window was tight, stores are sold out, and no restocks are coming. For those who missed it, similar celebrity collaborations with major chains typically follow this pattern: extremely limited quantities, instant sellouts, and stable resale prices in the $15-25 range for weeks afterward.
This is final sale on secondary markets. Most buyers are collectors or Hotties who missed the drop, not resellers looking to flip again, so these should move at current prices fairly quickly.
