Paul McCartney 7” Singles Box Set

In Winter 2022, Paul McCartney released this box set limited to 3,000 units. It includes 80 career-spanning 7” singles, and sold out after a few days of going live on his webstore.

With a career spanning six decades and widely recognized as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, it’s no surprise that people are rushing to pick up Paul McCartney’s latest release. The 7″ Singles Box is a collection of 164 of McCartney’s songs released since 1971. Preorders opened in mid-November, and while many fans were interested, they were deterred by the price. After selling out, aftermarket sales for the collection began to rise in price.

What is the Paul McCartney 7" Singles Box?

Well, if you don’t know anything about vinyl, lets clarify the difference between 12″ and 7″ vinyl records. 12″ records, also called 33s or LPs, are the most common kind of vinyl on the market today. They are large enough to hold around 15-20 minutes of music on each side, making them well suited for recording albums.

7″ records on the other hand can only hold 3-4 minutes of music per side. The faster playing speed of 45 rpm versus a 12″ record’s 33 rpm makes for higher fidelity, so musicians will typically opt to use a 7″ record for a single song.

McCartney’s 7″ Singles Box is a literal wooden box filled with 7″ records. 80 in total, with 164 different songs included. Of these, 15 records include singles that had never before been recorded on 7″ vinyl, which is of interest to collectors.

In addition to the music, each Singles Box shipped with a 148-page book with the details behind all the songs included. Each single features its original cover artwork which has been digitally restored. The box it shipped in was made from Redwood and Birch, and lovingly stamped with “McCartney Prod LTD.”

How much does the 7" Singles Box cost?

After announcing the project on 11/10, McCartney revealed the price for the 7″ Singles Box would be $612. Considering the sheer quantity of vinyl records, this price isn’t extremely high, but was enough to slow people down.

3,000 total 7″ Singles Boxes were produced, and it took three days for them to sell out. At $600+, this isn’t really a surprise, and the fact that 3,000 moved in three days is actually kind of impressive. Remember also that no new music is being released. This is exclusively a collector’s piece.

Why is McCartney's 7" Singles Box reselling?

While the 7″ Singles Box was scheduled to start shipping December 3, eBay began recording sales of boxes immediately after the sale ended. How much? Well, many of the sales snagged around $1,500. Some even approached the $1,800 mark, which is triple the retail price.

Despite the high price of the Singles Box, it appears McCartney struck a chord with fans looking to reminisce on his career. A thread from Analog Planet shows several commenters going back and forth about the price of the Box, with many believing that it would ultimately gain in value after release.

McCartney 7 singles box for sale

The close proximity of the holiday season likely drove the resell price for McCartney’s 7″ Singles Box even higher. For a dedicated McCartney fan, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect gift than a collection of his music since the 1970s. Vinyl is a good choice for a gift as well, because of its tangibility.

Remarkably, prices continued to hold, and even rise, following Christmas. Most sales are now hinging on the $1,800 mark, with many breaking past $2,000. If you thought $600 was too much to pay for one of these boxes, just look at it now

Additionally, some sellers have taken to listing the individual records for sale from the box. It looks like one seller has been able to sell several records for $60 each. If they keep this up, they’re looking at a potential profit of around $4,000. That’s only if they’re able to move every record for $60 though. They listed the EMPTY BOX and artbook separately as well. We tip our hat to this hard working reseller.
