Littlest Pet Shop Gen 7 toys just launched
One of these is a Surprise Pack that contains a random toy for $4
Resellers are flipping them for $10 to $15
You remember Littlest Pet Shop right? It’s one of those brands under the Hasbro umbrella, and you’d get the commercials every so often between SpongeBob reruns. Anyway, a new generation of Littlest Pet Shop toys has hit stores, and are proving quite popular. In fact, resellers have been making easy money over the last few days by flipping them to collectors. Here’s what you need to know:
As we all know, buying little plastic pieces of crap are an important part of the American childhood. In fact, many people will continue collecting and obsessing over their favorite brands well into adulthood.
Today, we’re looking at the seventh generation of Littlest Pet Shop toys. While the brand has been around for 30 years at this point, it’s gone through various phases, or generations.
Generation 7 is the latest, and it’s brand new. Littlest Pet Shop Generation 7 toys have only just started rolling out this January. There’s a fair bit of excitement around it, especially on one of their newest products, the Littlest Pet Shop Surprise Pack.
You can think of it like a booster pack for trading cards. Each box contains 1 out of 18 possible pets, along with an accessory, collector card, virtual code and collector’s guide. The Littlest Pet Shop Surprise Pack costs $4, and is available online and at many retailers.
Manufacturers are picking up the “blind bag” concept for selling their products. It turns out that if you something in a box, tell customers there’s a bunch of different things it might be and then sell it, you can make more money than if you had sold it on its own.
It’s especially useful for collector’s items. And yes, children’s toys are popular with collectors. We covered a similar idea when Santa Cruz Skateboards sold their Pokemon Skateboards in a blind bag. Customers loved it, and the whole collection ended up reselling for three or four times over what they cost from Santa Cruz.
Speaking of which, that’s the whole reason we’re talking about these stupid toys. When they started shipping to stores they became very popular with Littlest Pet Shop collectors, and are selling out pretty much everywhere.
Most of the toys in the Littlest Pet Shop are reselling for around $10 to $15, and the sealed boxes will resell for the same amount. Some resellers have elected to sell them as a complete set for around $200. That’s less potential profit, yes, but also less stress by selling it all at once.
Also, there’s a trick here that can help pick out particular collectibles. If you want to try and get the whole collection, the barcode on the packaging will show what toy is inside. The last number corresponds to the pet in the collection. Here’s a reddit thread that breaks it down.
Check your local Target or Walmart for these. The toy aisle would probably be your first look. You generally want to grab what you can find, and maybe look for particular toys to round out the collection.
