Legend of Zelda Switch 2 Consoles Resell on eBay for Up to $900

These consoles have been the subject of leaks for months now. We first covered them back in April, as insiders reported an Ocarina of Time Remake Switch 2 console was in the works. We got our first unofficial look at them last month, and now they’re finally out in the open.

Nintendo’s actual reveal turned out broader. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console covers the whole 40 year history of the series rather than tying itself to a single game, with a black and gold Triforce dock and forest green Joy-Cons that lean into the franchise’s overall look instead of one specific title.

The console lists for $519.99, just a $20 premium over the standard Switch 2’s post hike price of $499.99, a modest markup for the platform’s first limited edition console. That pricing did nothing to slow demand. Preorders opened today and sold out within about four hours, and fans are already reporting canceled orders similar to the chaos that surrounded the console’s original launch last year.

eBay listings for the console bundle are already changing hands in the $750 range, and the matching Pro Controller, which retails for $99.99, is fetching up to $180. Outlier sales for the console have reached as high as $900 for the console and $200 for the controller.

After eBay and shipping fees, resellers are netting around $100 per console sold and approximately $50 for every controller. Not bombastic, but very solid numbers especially considering how early we are.

As the first limited edition console since the Switch 2 launched, this was always going to draw serious attention from Zelda collectors, a fanbase that has shown up before for special edition Switch hardware. The console’s tie in to the wider 40th anniversary push, including a concert tour and new amiibo, gives it more staying power with collectors than a typical hardware refresh, and that crowd tends to hold onto sealed units rather than flip immediately.

Small restocks are possible if canceled preorders free up stock, but a full restock of The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 consoles before the October 29 ship date looks unlikely given how little lead time Nintendo left itself.

Once units actually start shipping, expect a short dip as original preorder holders unbox and decide whether to keep or sell, followed by renewed demand heading into the holidays.

This is a solid flip rather than a life changing one. Resellers that secured a preorder are now faced with a choice: list now or hold out for future profits.

Holding introduces significant risks, especially if you intend to wait until the holidays. With preorders opening today and selling out fast, hype around these consoles is extremely high. There are tons of buyers in the market right now, and demand will slowly subside as more and more buyers secure a console from a reseller. Additionally, holding past the console’s ship date risks running into a major restock that could torpedo the market for resellers. These risks must be considered against the potential gain by holding out for future profits.

Here’s our advice: if you secured a 40th Anniversary Legend of Zelda Switch 2 console preorder, we recommend listing it on eBay now for a higher price than the average sale, around $1,000 or so. Some of these consoles have sold for up to $900, so there are clearly buyers willing to bite even at a higher price point. As lower-priced listings begin to sell out, you might be surprised to see your listing sell for more than you anticipated.
