Resellers Double Their Money with Hot Wheels Ferrari Heritage Set

Let’s wind the clock back to 1970. Chances are most of our readers weren’t even alive back then, and maybe your parents hadn’t even been born yet. The Beatles were on their way out, the hippies were cutting their damn hair, and cocaine was having its moment in the sun.

And the year also marked Hot Wheels first line of Ferrari models. Mattel had launched the brand a few years earlier, and they had begun to create reproductions of real vehicles as opposed to the caricaturized, souped-up hot rods that made up the first run.

The 1970 Ferrari 312P would be the first of many Ferrari Hot Wheels. 55 years later, Hot Wheels has produced their Ferrari Heritage Set to celebrate the long history of both brands.

The Ferrari Heritage Hot Wheels Set consists of two cars; an intricately modeled 1970 Ferrari 312P and 2024 Ferrari 499P Modificata. Both cars represent the pinnacle of their generation of motorsport, and both are relevant for Hot Wheels collectors.

Mattel sold their Ferrari Heritage Sets for $100 exclusively through their Mattel Creations website. Customers were limited to one set, but a Red Line Club membership was not required to buy one.

As you can probably guess, these limited edition sets did not last long. After being listed on the morning of April 7, the online queue quickly ballooned into the thousands. Only a small number of collectors and resellers would get the sets they wanted.

Right now, Hot Wheels Ferrari Heritage Sets are reselling for around $200, just about double what they retailed for.

And the volume is pretty decent. We’re not exactly sure how many of these sets were actually sold, but plenty of resellers were able to eat well off this drop.
