Future Press reprinted their popular Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium
These were originally produced in 2019 for $50
Resellers have flipped the new versions for more than $150
Last week, the Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium stealth-restocked on Amazon. After the book’s first pressing in 2019, it’s been a popular and challenging find for serious FromSoftware fans. Thanks to product monitors, resellers were able to notice the drop early and snatch up new copies of the books. They’re now reselling for around three times what they retailed for, and more restocks are possible in the immediate future.
We’ve all heard about Elden Ring by now, right? Even if you’re not a gamer, FromSoft’s 2022 hit was a bigger cultural phenomena than any Marvel movie since Endgame.
And before Elden Ring, there was Dark Souls. With three games in five years, the Dark Souls series has had an incredible impact on the gaming scene, and sold tens of millions of copies.
Between the art direction and tight gameplay, Souls games have a unique vibe when it comes to storytelling. There’s very little exposition, and what you get is usually opaque, confusing, and fragmentary.
Studio Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has compared it to his experience as a child attempting to read English comics and novels, only partially comprehending it and imagining the rest as a major influence on the games’ tone.
Naturally this show-don’t-tell storytelling has created tons of opportunities for players and YouTubers to compile confirmed information a more easily-digestible format.
Why not a book? For the the serious gamer, Future Press printed the Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium in 2019. This is a comprehensive encyclopedia of the series’ lore, characters, and concepts, backed up with hard info and filled out with art and in-game maps.
There’s even a complete collection of every line of dialogue from every NPC from every game, in case you really want to get in the weeds. Altogether it’s a great collection for any fan of the series, whether they’re interested in the art or more technical info.
The Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium was originally printed in 2019. It cost $50, but was subject to numerous delays and printing issues. After its release it became quite popular among collectors; sealed versions have sold for as much as $400 in 2024.
In late 2023, the first large-scale reprint of the Compendium opened for preorder. Same price, same content, but this time labeled as the 25th Anniversary edition.
Once again, printing issues and delays kept these out of the hands of buyers for an extended time. Preorders placed in December didn’t ship until March, sometimes April.
After the initial print sold out, these have have only restocked a few times, and in very limited numbers. With too much and demand and not enough supply, resellers started paying attention.
Right now, the Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium 25th Edition is reselling for around $150. Remember, the anniversary edition is different from the original 2019 print that collectors are paying $400 for.
So, $100 in profit, give or take. That’s not at all bad. The last restock was through Amazon on May 14. We’re not sure how many books were loaded, but they didn’t last long. We recommend setting up monitors to watch for the next one.
Until then, subscribe to our newsletter to learn more about reselling. There’s always something around the corner, but you need to stay plugged in if you want to stay ahead.
