Slipknot has partnered with Soundwaves Art Foundation for a unique artwork
100 Signed “Duality” prints are available for $600
A few prints are still available for sale, along with two original pieces
If you’re a fan of Slipknot, we’ve got something cool for you today. The metal band has teamed up with Soundwaves Art Foundation to produce a unique and highly limited run of collectable art. Their song “Duality” has been turned into a tangible piece of art in four different variations. Additionally, 100 prints of the artwork have been signed by the band’s members, and are being sold right now. For a serious fan of the band, this is chance to get everyone’s autograph in one place, and also have a unique artwork to hang in the house. Let’s take a look.
You probably already know the song that’s been turned into art. It’s the one that opens with the guy talking about sticking fingers into his eyes.
“Duality” is a pretty big part of Slipknot’s discography, so it makes sense they’d choose it for this. For this run, there are four original artworks, available either as red, green, purple, or orange, although only the orange and red versions are still available. An original version of a “Duality” Soundwave artwork will run you $4,000, and they are signed by the band.
If that seems a little too expensive, there’s another way to get Slipknot’s signatures. 100 signed prints of the artwork are also being sold through Soundwaves Art Foundation. Signed Slipknot “Duality” prints cost $600 ($800 framed). Definitely not cheap, but better than the other option.
And it’s also possible to buy an unsigned, semi-limited print for either $75 for a mini or $150 for a standard print. These prices are doubled if the print is framed.
While the prices may be a bit steep, it’s for a good cause. Soundwaves Art Foundation is a charity art foundation formed in 2005 that produces and sells art for charity. The Foundation teams up with artists to produce soundwave artworks of their popular songs and then sells them. All profits of this art is then donated to charity.
Slipknot isn’t making anything off these prints. Their signatures are essentially a donation to raise money for Children in Conflict, a charity for children in areas affected by war.
Because of the unique nature of this art, some resellers are evaluating it as a potentially profitable item to flip. Think about it: all nine members of the band, all nine signatures on one piece. $600 isn’t a cheap, but for those signatures it’s not exactly terrible.
The value of the artwork is secondary. It’s cool, make no mistake, but a hardcore fan will be buying these prints to get their hands on the signatures. Will they be willing to pay a lot for that? Possibly. Since the sale went live on August 10, 76 signed “Duality” prints have already sold as of this writing. Even at $600, there’s interest for this piece.
Signed Soundwaves artworks have sold in the past. Not a ton, but we saw a recent sale for a signed print of “Thick Skull” by the members of Paramore for almost $1,500, as well as one for almost $4,000 for a print signed by the band The National in May.
That said, these prints really are priced quite high. $600 is a significant investment for anyone, resellers included, and buyers will really need to weigh what they think that’s worth. If these do end up reselling, it likely won’t be for an incredible profit.
If you have an extra $600 to throw around and like the idea of owning a “Duality” print with the band’s signatures, consider buying one. Otherwise, these might be a bit too risky for most folks. DYOR, and expect to hold onto it for a while.
