The Metroid Ravenous Special Edition retailed for $120 and quickly sold out across retailers
eBay sales are closing between $250 and $325, more than four months before the game launches
The bundle’s amiibo is currently exclusive to the Special Edition and not sold separately

Nintendo’s Special Edition for Metroid Ravenous vanished almost as soon as preorders went live this month, and resellers who locked one in are already holding a bundle worth roughly double what they paid. That’s a strange place for a video game collector’s edition to be, especially for a game nobody can play until next year. Between an exclusive amiibo, a UK retailer canceling orders, and some vague restock messaging from Nintendo, this one has turned into a real scramble.

Metroid Ravenous Collector's Edition Details

Metroid Ravenous is the direct sequel to 2021’s Metroid Dread, once again developed by MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind 2D Metroid since Samus Returns in 2017. It launches exclusively on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, and this time Samus can literally devour enemies to drain their energy.

The Special Edition on Nintendo’s store bundles a physical copy of the game with a SteelBook case and the Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo, which unlocks in-game extras Nintendo hasn’t detailed yet.

Two more Ravenous amiibo are coming separately, a larger-than-standard Samus and a Chozo Statue, but the Metroid Suit figure is only available in this bundle for now. Amiibo collectors are a completionist crowd, and locking a figure behind a $120 bundle turns every one of them into a Special Edition buyer.

Metroid Ravenous Special Editions Resell

Special Edition preorders went live with little warning and were gone across US and UK retailers within days, with Best Buy shoppers reporting that bots grabbed restocks within minutes. It’s rare to see a collector’s edition this picked over four months out from launch, and it suggests Nintendo badly underestimated demand. Metroid Ravenous Special Edition bundles are currently reselling on eBay for upwards of $250.

Metroid Ravenous Special Edition for Sale

Then UK retailer Very sent cancellation emails to a large number of Special Edition preorder customers, saying only that it was unable to supply the item. Very pulled the listing and refunded those orders, but anyone who still wants one now has to go through a reseller. Nintendo’s only public response has been telling fans to “check back soon.”

Bottom Line

This is a big win for Nintendo and for anyone who secured a preorder. Holding one is low risk, since retail preorders can generally be canceled before they ship and nothing here is final sale.

The tougher call is timing: selling now captures peak hype but runs into eBay’s presale rules, while waiting risks a restock dragging prices down. No matter what happens, this looks like a pretty lucrative flip for anyone that secured a preorder.

In other news, Rockstar opened preorders for GTA 6 Collector’s Editions this morning and they’re (somewhat surprisingly) still in stock. Before you rush to buy one, check out our guide here.
