Panini's Legend of Zelda Trading Cards: Here's What We Know

These might be Europe-exclusive

Panini Zelda Trading Cards Europe Exclusive

Key Points

  • Panini revealed The Legend of Zelda Master Collection trading cards during Nintendo’s September 8 Direct

  • The teaser showed a booster box, individual packs, and a card album spanning games across the series

  • The segment aired only on Nintendo’s UK and European channels, skipping the US and Japanese broadcasts

It’s a good time to be a Zelda fan. Nintendo just showed off thirty minutes of the new Ocarina of Time Remake, confirmed a November release date, and showed off a host of new merch. Tucked between new Amiibos and LEGO sets was a collection of officially licensed Legend of Zelda trading cards from Panini. The catch? These were only shown during European broadcasts and conspicuously absent from the American and Japanese streams.

Panini Zelda Trading Card Details

What we actually know comes from a single teaser image from a 34 minute Nintendo Direct. The booster box shows a pale, map-of-Hyrule design wrapped around a rupee-shaped emblem reading “Trading Card Collection,” with a green placard underneath naming it the Master Collection.

Surrounding that emblem are stylized versions of Link pulled from across the timeline, including designs from Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and the original 1986 game. A handful of individual cards are visible too, featuring Zelda’s Skyward Sword design, Link using Ultrahand from Tears of the Kingdom, an A Link to the Past scene, and Young Link sitting alongside Young Zelda from Ocarina of Time. The teaser also includes a black card album with an elastic closure strap, meant to house a completed set.

Beyond the image, details are thin. There’s no confirmed release date, price, pack count, or rarity structure, and the cards are labeled as a “trading card collection”, rather than a full-fledged TCG.

Panini has partnered with Nintendo in the past. the company has produced multiple Super Mario sticker and card collections, so a Zelda tie-in fits a relationship that’s already established.

The truly strange part is the way these cards were revealed. Nintendo produced separate Direct livestreams for American, Japanese, and European viewers, but the cards were only shown during the European Directs. The American and Japanese streams featured almost all of the other merch like the new Amiibos, LEGO set, and 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console, so the cards’ absence feels notable.

Why Resellers Are Interested

The last officially licensed Legend of Zelda trading card collection was a small run of card sets from Enterplay in 2016, and that history is part of why resellers are already paying attention. If Panini’s set launches as a limited or region-locked product, it would follow a pattern collectors have seen before: a niche, low-print release that becomes difficult to find once the initial hype fades.

It’s early, but the precedent here is worth noting. Enterplay’s Legend of Zelda cards from 2016 have become valuable collectibles today. Sealed boxes containing 24 packs have sold on eBay for over $1,000.

Enterplay Zelda Trading Cards for Sale

If Panini’s Master Collection does end up Europe-exclusive, there’s no telling how that scarcity might influence US and Japanese collectors, or what they might sell for on the secondary market.

Ultimately it’s just too early to make any solid calls on these cards. We have too little information and we’re just speculating at the moment. The fact that these were only shown during the European Nintendo Direct is telling, but it’s not a direct confirmation of regional exclusivity. Stay tuned for further details on these cards that will hopefully be coming in the near future.
