Fable's Collectors Editions Are Already Selling Out

The Fable Collector’s Edition comes in at $199.99 and includes a solid lineup of physical collectibles: a Jack of Blades statuette, hardcover art book, collectible SteelBook case, and a custom Heroes Guild Seal pin.

It also bundles in the full Premium Edition of the game, which means five days of early access, the Order of the Hero post-launch expansion, a digital art book and soundtrack, and the Premium Edition Content Pack.

Pre-ordering also locks in the Chicken Suit cosmetic and a few in-game gift items. Physical disc for Xbox and PS5 buyers, digital code for Steam.

The game itself is a full reboot of the beloved Playground Games RPG franchise, set in an open-world Albion with the same blend of dark humor, moral choices, and reputation systems long-time fans remember. It’s a high-profile release, and the Collector’s Edition reflects that.

Traditionally, video game collector’s editions work like this: preorders open months or even years before launch, production scales to meet demand, and the window to order stays open for a long time. You don’t need to rush because there’s no real scarcity until close to release.

Xbox appears to be doing something different. The Fable Xbox Collector’s Edition sold out quickly after going live, and that’s not an isolated incident. We covered the Halo: Campaign Evolved Collector’s Edition selling out in under an hour, with units already touching $700 on eBay from a $200 retail.

This is obviously a subjective conclusion to draw, and we only have a few data points to go off, but both these releases come in the weeks after Xbox’s Summer Showcase. The company has made a public declaration to return to exclusivity, and it seems like that vow extends to their limited edition releases.

The early eBay data on Fable is modest but real. A few Xbox editions have sold around $350, which works out to roughly $105 profit after eBay’s 13% fee. That’s solid for a preorder on a game that doesn’t ship until 2027.

Whether that holds, drops, or climbs depends on how the game is received. If Fable launches well and becomes a genuine hit, demand for the Collector’s Edition will likely outpace whatever secondary market supply exists. If it underperforms or gets delayed again, the floor could drop. You’re essentially placing a bet on a game that’s already been delayed multiple times.

Steam and PS5 editions are still available and there’s no way of knowing if Xbox will restock. If Xbox follows the same playbook as Halo and keeps the Xbox variant capped, the PS5 and Steam versions may also sell through eventually, though they historically don’t carry the same secondary market premium as the console-specific editions.

The Xbox Game Studios Shop offers a 30-day return policy on most items after delivery. Pre-orders can be cancelled before shipment, but the fine print carves out exceptions for limited edition items and orders flagged for resale activity. If you cancel before the item ships, you should be fine in most cases, but read the cancellation policy carefully. The bigger risk is straightforward: you’re pre-ordering for a game shipping in 2027, and a lot can change between now and then, including another delay.

Don’t overcommit capital on early eBay data. A handful of sold listings at $350 is interesting but not conclusive. Keep it reasonable.
