Gears of War: E-Day Collector's Edition Preorder Open Now

The Gears of War: E-Day Collector’s Edition is centered around a 15-inch illuminated diorama statue of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, which is the clear centerpiece of the package.

Alongside the statue, you get a 1:1 scale replica of Carlos Santiago’s COG tags made from metal zinc alloy and brass, a Luke Preece-designed custom SteelBook case, a lithograph, an in-game photo, and a thank-you note from The Coalition. Everything ships in collector’s display packaging with a sliding drawer to show off the tags.

On the digital side, the bundle includes the full game (physical disc for Xbox, digital code for Steam) plus the Premium Edition upgrade, which adds five days of early access, the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack, 1,000 Iron in-game currency, and five seasonal customization packs. Preordering before the beta window also gets you early access to the Open Beta running August 6-10.

It’s a solid package for the price. The statue alone would retail for $100+ as a standalone collectible, and the metal COG tags are a nice touch for longtime fans of the series. That said, $300 is steep for a collector’s edition by any measure, and it’s worth going in with eyes open about what you’re paying for.

This is where it gets interesting for resellers. We covered the Halo: Campaign Evolved Collector’s Edition when it went up for preorder, and that one sold out fast and is currently flipping for up to $700 on the secondary market. That’s a potential profit of around $300 after eBay’s fees, on a $250 retail purchase.

The Gears of War CE launched alongside the Halo CE on the same Xbox Game Studios storefront. If Microsoft is treating these as a consistent limited-run program across its flagship franchises, production numbers may be comparable. Gears has a passionate, long-running fanbase that dates back to 2006, and this is a genuine origin-story prequel from The Coalition, not a spin-off or remaster. The conditions for a sellout are there.

That said, this is speculative. The Halo comparison is the strongest data point available, but it’s one data point. There’s no confirmed production number for the Gears CE, and it’s possible Microsoft has ramped up supply based on Halo’s demand. The secondary market for this one is an educated guess, not a guarantee.

The edition is available now for $299.99 directly through the Xbox Game Studios Shop. Orders are limited to one per customer, and shipping is restricted to the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.

On cancellation: the Xbox Game Studios Shop’s standard policy allows preorders to be canceled before shipment, which would give you an easy exit if these never sell out. However, the policy explicitly carves out “limited edition, timed edition or exclusive items” from its cancellation terms. It’s worth reading the fine print before ordering under the assumption that you can cancel freely. If this edition is classified as limited or exclusive, you may be locked in. If the preorder does sell out and secondary market prices climb like they did for the Halo CE, you’re looking at a potential profit in the $250-$400 range after eBay fees. If it doesn’t sell out, you’re holding a $300 collector’s edition of a game you may or may not want to keep.
