A24’s Backrooms has done something unusual: turned a creepypasta-born horror concept from the internet into a genuine cultural phenomenon. Now the film’s score is getting a vinyl release, which is a pretty logical next step when the director also happens to be a trained pianist who co-composed the whole thing. The tracklist pulls from the film’s full score, covering everything from the quieter, dread-soaked ambient stretches to the more overtly unsettling moments that the Backrooms mythos is built around.

Track titles like “Quiet Wall in Dark Room,” “Feeling of a Door Imminently Remembered,” and “Furnished Dead End” are doing a lot of heavy lifting on atmosphere before you even drop the needle.

Under the handle Kane Pixels, Parsons began posting to YouTube in 2015, starting with Minecraft videos and internet memes. His real focus was always filmmaking. In January 2022, at 16 years old, he posted “The Backrooms (Found Footage),” a short film built around the liminal horror aesthetic of the Backrooms creepypasta. hTe production quality was miles ahead of what you’d expect from a teenager’s YouTube channel, and today that video has accumulated over 80 million views.

Music has always been central to his creative identity. He’s a trained pianist who scored his YouTube series himself, and has his own Spotify and SoundCloud accounts with music from those earlier projects. Parsons’ co-composer is a Vancouver-based film scorer with a strong resume in atmospheric horror. Van Breemen scored The Monkey and Keeper, both released in 2025, and worked previously on Afflicted, Air, and Hollow in the Land. His approach, built around minimal acoustic textures, live recordings, and what he describes as “letting silence speak,” lines up well with what Backrooms needs tonally.
