Key Points

  • The Yoshi popcorn bucket is a 105oz full-figure sculpt available at major chains April 1

  • Price is unconfirmed but expected around $30 to $50 based on comparable collectible buckets

  • No movie ticket is required to purchase, and demand for Mario merchandise has been massive since the first film

Yoshi is finally getting his moment in the spotlight, and theater chains are marking the occasion with what might be the best-looking collectible popcorn bucket in recent memory. The green dino sits in a relaxed pose cradling a white Yoshi Egg, which is where your popcorn actually goes. It hits theaters on opening day for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and given what Mario merch did after the first film, these are going to move fast.

The Yoshi popcorn bucket is a full-character sculpt with solid detail throughout: big round head, blue eyes, little orange shoes, red shell on his back. The 105oz egg bowl is a clever design choice that makes the whole thing feel more like a collectible than just a novelty container. At Cinemark, it comes with XL popcorn and a free same-day refill.

Official pricing has not been confirmed, but multiple sources tracking the release peg it at approximately $50, which lines up with what comparable movie theater collectible buckets have sold for recently. That’s a fair number for what you’re getting, and it’s the price point to budget around.

No ticket required at participating locations. Just walk up to the concession counter and buy one while they last.

Where to Get One

The Yoshi bucket is non-exclusive and rolling out across multiple chains simultaneously. Confirmed locations include AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Harkins, Marcus Theatres, and Showcase Cinemas, with other chains expected to follow. The movie opens Wednesday, April 1, with midnight screenings starting the night of March 31 at select Regal, AMC, Cinemark, and Harkins locations.

If you’re planning to grab multiples, the midnight showing on March 31 is your best shot at getting ahead of opening day demand. By the time the Wednesday crowd rolls in, some locations will already be cleaned out.

Will They Resell?

Movie theater popcorn buckets have had a strong resell run over the past few years. The Sinners guitar case bucket and Markiplier’s Iron Lung bucket both showed what happens when the design is genuinely interesting and demand outpaces supply. The Yoshi bucket has both factors working in its favor.

Mario merch demand has been enormous since the first film. This design, a full-figure sculpt rather than a flat printed container, is the kind of thing collectors actually want on a shelf. At an estimated $50 retail, resellers flipping at 2 to 3 times that are looking at roughly $43 to $87 in profit per bucket after eBay’s 13% fee. That’s a clean flip for what amounts to a quick trip to the theater.

The wide availability across chains is a double-edged sword. More locations means easier access for buyers, but also means more supply in the market initially. Watch early sold listings on April 1 to get a read on where prices settle before committing to multiple units.

There’s no refund on a popcorn bucket, so this is a final sale situation once you’re at the counter. Don’t buy more than you’re comfortable holding if the market comes in soft. Given the IP and the design quality, that scenario feels unlikely, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you’re going heavy. The wide release at multiple chains should make it easy to source without driving to multiple locations.
