Key Points

  • Lego’s Insider Weekend offered rewards for large purchases

  • Expensive sets like the X-Mansion were ideal

  • By flipping minifigs separately, profits of $200+ were possible

Over the weekend, resellers took advantage of a limited time opportunity on Lego’s website. The “Lego Insider Weekend” had several sets go on sale, and it was possible to make some nice profits by buying the nice ones. Once they start shipping, resellers will be able to flip individual parts to collectors. It won’t be long until we start seeing profits of two or even three times their initial investments. Let’s take a look.

Lego Insider Weekend Sales

You like Legos, right? Even if you’re not into building them, there’s a huge community built around collecting, trading, and reselling Lego sets.

We’ve covered some profitable Lego flips in the past, with sets like Barad-dûr and Bricklink’s Mountain Fortress generating tons of cash for resellers that got in.

Lego just held an “Insider’s Weekend” for collectors with a Lego Insider membership. Many sets were heavily marked down, and qualifying purchases could earn rewards points that brought prices down further. The set we were most interested in was the Lego X-Men: X-Mansion.

Based on the school/hideout featured in the comics, the Lego X-Mansion is a 3,000 piece set that ordinarily retails for $330. During the weekend, resellers were able to get it for under $300 by using their rewards.

On its own, this isn’t a profitable flip. If you already wanted to buy it for personal use, this was a simple discount. But there’s more to reselling Legos than just flipping the whole box. See, this particular Lego set included ten different minifigures based on different X-Men.

And Lego collectors love buying minifigs. They are extremely popular and consequently profitable, and big sets with lots of minifigs are ideal for a reseller.

In addition to the set and its minifigs, Lego X-Men: X-Mansions also came with several free gifts as part of the Insider Weekend. These were a retro Lego record player, festive train, and holiday crafting kit.

The bottom line? A lot of extra bang with your buck. This was a right place, right time kind of flip, and the resellers that ordered a set over the weekend have set themselves up for some quick profits ahead of the holidays.

So how much are these sets actually worth? Well, once resellers part out their kits and free gifts, they’ll have around fifteen different items to sell, including the minifigless main set.

Some of these minifigs will flip for a few bucks, but others like the Lego Gambit minifig are selling for more than $50 at a time. The larger Sentinel figure has also flipped for close to $80.

By parting things out and flipping the individual parts, resellers can expect to sell their entire lot for upwards of $500. It’s a bit tedious, sure, but it comes out to over $200 in profit after fees. We’ll take that deal pretty much any day of the week.

And it’s especially helpful as we get closer to the Christmas season. If you’re starting to feel that familiar sting in your wallet, subscribe to our newsletter and stay updated on upcoming flips. This one might have passed you by, but there will be plenty more all the way through to 2025.
