Still early, but solid interest for over $1,000
Where did the time go?
And they're still restocking
Dolly Parton’s cookbook “Good Lookin’ Cookin” has just release
Signed copies were available for preorder back in March for just $35
Resellers are flipping them for more than $300 post-release
Earlier this year, Dolly Parton confirmed she would be publishing her second cookbook. “Good Lookin’ Cookin” is a collection of the star’s favorite recipes from a lifetime in Nashville. From Thanksgiving to Mother’s Day feasts to aorta-bursting breakfasts, it’s a great get for any fan of hers that loves to eat. A limited number of signed “Good Lookin’ Cookin” copies were available for preorder back in March, and they’ve begun to flip for triple digit figures as resellers get them in hand.
What comes to mind when you hear Dolly Parton? Her music? Her hair? Two other things? But what about her cooking? In between writing songs and playing at the Grand Ole Opry, Dolly Parton is also an accomplished cook. Her first book of recipes, “Dolly’s Dixie Fixin’s”, released in 2006, and she’s followed it up with a collaborative piece this year.
“Good Lookin’ Cookin” is the culmination of years in and out of the kitchen, and features Dolly’s sister Rachel Parton George as coauthor. The book promises to teach readers the secrets behind authentic Dixie cooking (butter and sugar), and the “special dish Rachel makes at Dolly’s request every year for her birthday.”
It’s 272 pages of meals, Parton family folklore, and easy ways to raise your LDL levels. “Good Lookin’ Cookin” released earlier this month through most booksellers for $25, including an exclusive Target variant with a letter from Dolly.
Recipes include American classics such as Country Ham and Biscuits, Barbecue Spare Ribs, Family Favorite Meatloaf, Slaw of Many Colors, Watermelon Fruit Salad, Mac and Cheese, and Strawberry Shortcake
But for her biggest, boldest, most out-of-breath fans, Dolly also released a limited number of signed “Good Lookin’ Cookin” copies. These were available exclusively as a preorder through Books-a-Million for $35 back in March, and smart couponing could bring it down to $25.
If you’re a beginner reseller, let us give you some advice: when you see Dolly Parton’s signature for $35, you don’t ask questions; you just buy it. Not everything we cover is a no-brainer, but these sure as hell were.
And while these might have sold out back in March, buyers have only just begun to receive their books this month. There have been a few sales of confirmed preorders, but things really took off this week.
Right now, signed copies of Dolly Parton’s “Good Lookin’ Cookin” are reselling for around $300 at a time. We don’t have much more to say other than “Thank You, Dolly”, and maybe “More Please?”
For the resellers that snagged a copy, these cookbooks are an opportunity to make more than $250 in straight up profit from a single item. We don’t care who you are; that’s a good flip.
Prior to September, the books were flipping for around $150. The marketing push surrounding the book’s release helped motivate buyers to fork their cash over, but it also means antsy resellers that sold early shortchanged themselves out of hundreds of dollars.
