Rare Star Wars merchandise will be sold during D23 2024
They will be sold online on August 12 as well
We’re expecting some of these to flip for over $1,000
If you’ve already got tickets to the D23 Expo, or you’re just impulsive, we’ve got a few opportunities to make a buck. Every year, all kinds of exclusive merchandise is up for sale at D23, and 2024 is no exception. Clone Wars lightsaber sets and replicas of park rides are the current standouts, and judging by the prices and production numbers, these will start reselling in no time. These might not be cheap or easy to buy, but believe us, they will be profitable.
Today marks the first day of the D23 2024 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center. For the next three days, sweaty nerds will be stinking up the Expo in search of new toys from old, old franchises.
While tickets are sold out and have been sold out for weeks, it still might be worth it to turn to a fellow scalper in search of a seat. Aside from the panels and celebrity appearances, convention-exclusive merchandise is a favorite of collectors, and we see it resell every year.
Want an example? Back in 2022, sneak-peek Lorcana sets were available at Ravensburger’s D23 booth for $50. These sold months ahead of the official launch of Lorcana, and Disney fans were extremely eager to see what was in store.
After the Expo, resellers begun selling their packs for not hundreds, but thousands of dollars. No matter how much you paid for a ticket, snagging just one promo set was enough to come out ahead.
Hopefully you can understand why we’re paying such close attention to this event. This weekend is a stellar opportunity for resellers to make a buck and piss off Disney adults at the same time. And while the easiest way to buy these is to attend the convention in person, but they will be available online after the convention is over.
If you’re looking to make some money, keep an eye for event-exclusive merchandise to list on eBay. We’re going to spotlight two products today that we guarantee will resell after the weekend; Star Wars Clone Wars Signed Lightsaber sets, and Star Tours StarSpeeder Replica toys.
It wouldn’t be a gathering of Star Wars fans without some overpriced lightsaber replicas for sale. After its debut in 2008, Filoni’s “Clone Wars” animated series has been canonized in recent years, with several characters making the transition from cartoons to live action portrayals.
The Clone Wars Lightsaber set available at D23 includes three hilts based on those used by the characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano.
What’s really notable is the presentation. Aside from the hilts, this collection comes with a carved wooden box. Inside is a metal insert with signatures from James Arnold Taylor, Matt Lanter, and Ashley Eckstein; who voiced the characters from “Clone Wars”.
At $550, this D23-Exclusive Clone Wars Lightsaber Hilt set is definitely a collector’s item. There will only be 3,000 units produced in total, and the metal inserts are numbered.
This one is a bit more meta. Earlier this year, Disney revived the Star Tours ride at Disney Parks, featuring an immersive experience taking riders through the Star Wars galaxy.
At this year’s D23, a replica version of the Star Tours StarSpeeder will be sold for $300. Featuring a functional 4.3″ LCD screen, moving doors with sound, and 3.75″ scale seats with working seat belts, this a toy for the dedicated Disney dork.
Like the lightsabers, these StarSpeeder replicas are limited to just 3,000 total units. It’s a somewhat esoteric product, but we’re still expecting it to be very popular.
But now for the hard part: actually buying the stuff. With how limited these toys are and how many people out there will be gunning for them, these are definitely not going to be easy flips. There are two ways to buy this merch:
First, obviously, you can buy them in-person, at D23 2024. Like we said, tickets are sold out, so this might not be an option if you didn’t reserve seats ahead of time.
That said, D23 exclusive Star Wars merch will be sold online through the Disney Store after the convention. On August 12 at 8 A.M Pacific, these products and other Expo exclusives will go up for sale.
Considering how limited these are, expect them to sell out fast. Still, it’s worth the effort. Star Wars fans are serious when it comes to overpriced merch, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see quadruple digit sales on eBay next week.
The Lightsaber set will likely be the most profitable item, especially considering the three signatures. Previous signed lightsabers have flipped for more than $1,000 after selling out through the Disney Store.
So, do what you have to do. Set an alarm, drink some coffee, practice your checkouts; anything it takes to secure these products.
Oh, and if you happen to have a ticket for D23, make sure you look for the exclusive Lorcana sets for sale at Ravensburger’s booth. You can read our article here for more details, but believe us when we say these will flip for some serious money.
That’s all for now. Subscribe to our newsletter if you want to stay tuned for more reselling opportunities. There’s always something new around the corner, so get in here and start making some money.
