Signed books from Rebecca Yarros and Christopher Paolini were sold on Saturday
Buying a ticket to a virtual discussion came with a copy
Books signed by Yarros have resold for a significant premium
Barnes & Noble will be holding a virtual discussion with the authors Rebecca Yarros and Christopher Paolini. At the same time that tickets sold, a small number of signed copies of their recent books were also available. In the past, books signed by these authors have resold at a significant premium, and resellers were all over of the event. Tickets and books sold out fast, and now eBay is filling up with new listings.
Well, if you’ve been reading our blog, you should be familiar with Rebecca Yarros. We wrote about her recent novel “Iron Flame” back in September while resellers flipped signed copies for three times retail.
And you might also remember our coverage of Barbra Streisand’s signed book “Barbra“. These were made available through an exclusive virtual webinar, hosted by Barnes and Noble and attended by the author.
Clearly someone in the publishing industry is subscribed to our newsletter, because they’ve combined the two articles. This week, Barnes and Noble will be hosting another virtual event, this time featuring Rebecca Yarros and Christopher Paolini.
Yarros is of course the highly acclaimed author of the “Empyrean” series that includes “Iron Flame”, while Christopher Paolini is known for the “Eragon” books.
Both of them have released new books recently, and are now well in the promotion cycle. The discussion will be held on January 15, but to attend you need to have purchased a (now sold-out) ticket.
There were four different tickets available for purchase. Each one came with a different signed copy of one of the two authors’ books. The options available were:
Customers were limited to one ticket. The best choice here is Yarros’ “Iron Flame”, and was also the one that sold out first. “Eragon” would also work, but this was definitely a first-come, first-serve situation.
Because there’s already an existing market for these books, it wasn’t hard to make profit. Prices have dropped a bit since their peak, but these are still a good flip.
Right now, signed “Iron Flame” books are reselling for $50 to $100. We’re not sure if there’s a market yet for the Christopher Paolini books, so we’ll be keeping an eye on those in the future.
See, reading is cool. And if you can make money while you’re at? Well that’s pretty cool too. Signed books are a pretty lucrative niche; check out our articles on books by Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Hetfield for more examples.
And subscribe to our newsletter to stay looped in on more flips like this. There’s always something new around the corner, and we’re bringing it all to you.
