These might be a pass

Key Points

  • Three figures are available for $30 each

  • Previous Comic-Con and Brooklyn pop-up Smiling Friends vinyls are currently selling for $150-$200 per figure on eBay

  • Preorders are marked as limited edition but ship dates don’t start until August 2025

Resellers remembered the huge profits on the ultra-rare Smiling Friends vinyl figurines sold at Comic Con and the show’s Brooklyn pop-up, and were hoping this collection from Youtooz would be similarly successful. However, these figures have been available for over a week now, shedding serious doubt on the “limited edition” label. Still, with how profitable Smiling Friends merch has been in the past, this collection is worth paying attention to.

Pim, Charlie, and Glep Vinyl Figures

Youtooz is offering the Smiling Friends crew in 4.5-inch vinyl form. You can grab either Pim, Charlie (and Jeremy), or Glep individually at $30 each, or cop the full set for $90. Each figure comes with swappable faceplates and accessories specific to the characters.

These were widely expected to sell out within hours based on how crazy the market went for those Comic-Con exclusives. Instead, they’re still sitting after a full week. That could mean Youtooz is producing to meet demand rather than creating artificial scarcity, or the preorder window might close any day now.

Smiling Friends Youtooz Charlie Glep Pim

Smiling Friends has a cult following, and physical collectibles have consistently performed well on secondary markets. When Adult Swim and Faye Yep Studio released those vinyl figures at San Diego Comic-Con and the Brooklyn pop-up last year, resellers were eating. Single figures from those drops are currently moving for $150-$200 on eBay with solid sold listings backing up those prices.

The question is whether these Youtooz versions will carry the same premium. They’re officially licensed and limited edition according to the listing, but without knowing the actual production numbers or whether they’ll keep preorders open for weeks, it’s tough to gauge scarcity.

Risk Factors

Let’s be real about the downsides here. First, you’re looking at an August ship date at the earliest. That’s seven months of your money tied up before you can even list these. Second, this is final sale only through Youtooz, so if these brick, you’re stuck with them. No returns, no refunds.

The biggest unknown is production quantity. If Youtooz is just manufacturing however many people order, these won’t carry the same exclusivity as those Comic-Con pieces. The fact they’re still available a week later suggests either demand is softer than expected or supply is more flexible than the “limited edition” tag implies.

Resell Strategy

If you’re going to jump on these, the smart play is probably the full set at $90 rather than individual figures. Collectors tend to value complete sets more, and breaking even would only require selling around $100 after eBay’s 13% fees.

Smiling Friends Vinyl Figurine for Sale

For context, if these follow the same trajectory as the Comic-Con vinyls and hit that $150-$200 per figure range, a complete set could theoretically move for $500 or more. But that’s a big if that depends on actual scarcity, which we can’t verify right now.

Bottom Line

This is a speculative play with some serious risks. You’re committing money until August, dealing with final sale terms, and betting on production numbers we don’t actually know. But the previous Smiling Friends vinyl performance shows there’s real collector demand for this IP in physical form.

If you’re already deep in the animation collectibles space and can stomach the wait and risk, grabbing a set or two might be worth it. Just don’t bet the farm expecting guaranteed Comic-Con level returns when we don’t know if these will actually be scarce.
