Spooky season has officially reached the grocery aisle. Trader Joe’s is bringing back its Halloween mini canvas totes this week, and if you’ve followed the chain’s tote drops at all, you know the routine: lines before the doors open, empty displays by mid-morning, and a wave of eBay listings by lunch. These bags cost less than a pumpkin spice latte, and they’ve become one of the most dependable low-stakes flips in retail.

Trader Joe’s has confirmed that the Trick-or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes will be in stores for a limited time starting Wednesday, September 30. The price hasn’t moved. Each bag is still $2.99, the same as last year’s Halloween run and the original minis that started the craze in early 2024.

This year’s lineup comes in four colorways: all black with orange details, all purple with green details, green with purple straps and orange details, and black with green straps and orange details.

The designs are close to last year’s set but not identical. That matters to the collectors who already own the 2025 bags and will want the new versions too.

Trader Joe’s doesn’t sell online, so this is in-store only, and availability varies from store to store. Most locations stock twice a day, once at opening and again around noon, and the bags usually sell out as fast as they hit the shelf. Call your store the day before and ask when the bags go out. Then plan to be there at opening and hit a second location for the noon restock.

The track record is strong. The pastel Easter minis had lines out the door in spring 2025, and last year’s Halloween drop followed the same pattern. Individual bags have settled at modest prices, though. Confirmed 2025 Halloween sales have landed from $10 to $20, with four bag sets making up the bulk of the sales.

Buying and selling these in bulk allows a fairly modest profit margin to stack up quick, and resellers have turned $100+ in profit per day just by flipping these totes.

Trader Joe’s accepts returns on virtually anything for a refund or exchange. With a receipt you get your original payment back, and without one you get store credit, so unsold totes aren’t a dead loss. Managers can push back on large bulk returns, though, so keep your receipts.

Counterfeits are the other thing to watch. Trader Joe’s has filed a lawsuit over knockoff totes sold online, and buyers are wary. We recommend photographing your bags with the tags and receipt to prove they’re authentic.
