If you haven’t heard, it’s the 25th Anniversary for The Sims video game franchise. To celebrate, EA has spun up a host of new content both virtual and tangible. One of these products is a two disc vinyl collection featuring music from all four mainline games. These vinyl launched through several distributors with a number of limited variants. All of them have been enormously popular with preorders selling out in a few hours. It’s still early, but we’re already seeing them be relisted on eBay, and the profits look good.
If you grew up with a computer in the house, chances are that you spent some time as a kid playing The Sims. Whether it was the 2000 OG or one its sequels, the series has left a mark on gaming and popular culture as well.
And no small part of that is the music. The hours spent creating Sims and building homes was backed up by some of the most fitting and distinct video game soundtracks ever made. Seriously, just give a quick listen to this track and see if any memories come flooding back.
Last week marked the 25th Anniversary of The Sims. EA has rolled out a whole host of celebratory material, including an Anniversary Bundle with all the games (that was quickly review-bombed for being a buggy mess in classic EA fashion)
And there’s some real world content as well. What we’re looking at today is The Sims 25th Anniversary vinyl collection. This a two disc LP, with each side featuring six songs from a different Sims game.
There are ten different variants of this collection. They all feature the same music, just a different appearance. The entire collection was limited to just 10,000, and some variants were limited to a few hundred units.
The bulk of the production was done through Enjoy The Ride Records, or ETR. They sold four different variants of The Sims Anniversary vinyl collection for $40 each, including Metallic Shiny Green (3,000), Green Blend (1,000), Clear with Neon Green Cornetto (750), and Green Apple Cream (300).
Five of the other variants were international exclusives and produced in numbers from 300 to 600 units. 3,000 Clear with Neon Green Splatter vinyl were made available through the At The Movies shop online.
We’re going to focus on the ETR variants as these were the easiest to buy. All of their limited variants sold out within a few hours of the preorder window opening, although you can still buy Metallic Shiny Green and Neon Green Splatter variants as of this publication.
Worth it? Let’s talk about it. You’re too late to snag any of the super-limited variants, and these are the ones resellers were most interested in.
It’s still early, but we’re already seeing listings go up for The Sims 25th Anniversary vinyl collection. Depending on the variant, most sellers are asking between $150 and $250 for their copy. Additionally, at least one Green Apple Cream Sims vinyl has sold for $300.
That’s a pretty strong start. We’ll be keeping our eyes on this collection over the weekend to see if the hype holds.
Like we said, you can still buy some of the less limited variants of this vinyl online if you want to try flipping them. ETR’s refund policy specifically calls out resellers, and notes that if you choose to cancel your order before it ships your refund will have a 15% restocking fee deducted.
The fact that the common variants haven’t sold out yet isn’t a great sign, but anything can happen. There’s definitely some risk here, so do your own research here.
