Why Resellers Are Buying Pollen Robotics' Microducks

Pollen Robotics is a Bordeaux based robotics company that Hugging Face acquired in 2025. Hugging Face built its name as an open platform for sharing AI models, and it has leaned into that same open philosophy with hardware.

Pollen Robotics’ first consumer product, Reachy Mini, is a stationary desktop robot focused on expression and communication. It could look around, react, and talk, but it never left the desk. Microduck flips that formula. Instead of a stationary companion, Pollen Robotics built a small biped meant to move, fail, and learn.

The Microduck stands 25 centimeters tall, weighs under 800 grams, and ships in four colorways: Cream, Graphite, Lavender, and Sky. It runs on 15 motors, a front camera, a small time of flight LiDAR sensor, two IMUs, and an articulated beak that doubles as a gripper. Out of the box it can walk, sit, crouch, recover from falls, and roller skate with an optional accessory pack, and it comes with a game controller so new owners can start playing immediately.

Preorders opened at an introductory price of $399 before tax and shipping through the official Pollen Robotics store, with first deliveries originally targeted before Christmas 2026 across the US, Canada, the EU, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Japan, and South Korea. That timeline held for the earliest orders. Anyone placing a new order today is looking at a four to six month wait instead, as Pollen Robotics works through a backlog it clearly did not plan for.

Delangue told Axios he’d consider 50,000 units sold a win for Microduck. The company blew past $2.6 million in orders in its first 24 hours alone, translating to more than 5,000 units already spoken for.

This is shaping up as a strong setup for resellers, and the reason comes down to Pollen Robotics’ return policy rather than the robot itself. Preorders can be canceled for a full refund any time before the unit ships, and delivered units can be returned within 14 days for a full refund under standard EU consumer protection rules. That combination means anyone who got an early order in during the first day is holding something with very little downside. Worst case, they cancel or return it. Best case, they’re sitting on one of the only Microducks that will arrive in time for the holidays, and that makes it very valuable to someone looking to secure one as a gift.

That’s the part worth remembering here. A $399 hobbyist robot with open preorders doesn’t scream flip potential on its own, but a generous refund window gives resellers options. It gave early buyers room to take a chance without real exposure to risk, and now that the backlog has stretched new orders into 2027, those early preorders look like they’ll be worth much more than their retail price as Christmas approaches and gift shoppers start hunting for units that can actually arrive in time.
