Well, we saw that one coming

Key Points

  • The Pokemon 30th anniversary G-Shock GA-110PKM-7A retailed for $270 and sold out fast once preorders opened

  • Current secondary market listings are averaging around $450, roughly $180 over retail

  • Casio offers a 30 day money back guarantee on direct purchases, reducing risk for anyone who bought in

Sometimes the biggest release of the week ends up being the safest bet instead of the biggest score. Resellers who called this one for a four figure flip based on how big Pokemon’s fanbase is were left a little disappointed. The watch still made money for everyone who copped one, just not the kind of money the hype had people expecting.

We covered this watch before it dropped, and the short version is that Casio went all in on Pokemon’s 30th anniversary with its first full-sized G-Shock collab for the franchise. The GA-110PKM-7A wraps the classic GA-110 case in the original 1996 red, blue, and green color scheme, with a Poke Ball subdial, a Pikachu-shaped indicator hand, and 30 different Pokemon printed across the band.

Preorders opened July 1 for $270 through Casio’s site and the brand’s SoHo flagship, with a wider release planned for July 17. Stock moved fast. Between the anniversary hook and the fact that this was the first time Pokemon fans got a full-sized G-Shock instead of a Baby-G, demand was never really in question.

What made this one different from past G-Shock collabs is the sheer size of the crossover audience. Pokemon collectors are some of the most active spenders in the entire hobby, and plenty of them don’t normally buy watches at all. That crossover pull is exactly why we floated a shot at four figure resale before launch.

Pokemon Anniversary G-Shock Watches Resell

Predictably, the watches hit eBay shortly after selling out. Right now, Pokemon 30th Anniversary G-Shock watches are consistently reselling for around $450, a little less than $200 over retail.

Compare that to two other recent G-Shock collabs. The Coca-Cola G-Shock retailed for $200 and settled around $300, with some sales pushing toward $400. The Daft Punk x PLEASURES watch retailed for $180 and landed around $250, with outliers hitting $400 to $500. The Pokemon watch is outperforming both in raw dollar terms, just not by the margin its fanbase size might suggest.

eBay has recorded over 100 sales since the watches went live yesterday. It’s not clear how many were made, but it seems like Casio stuck the sweet spot for sustained secondary market demand.

Bottom Line

This is a case of a drop being too well known for its own good. When a release gets this much visibility ahead of launch, a lot of resellers show up to buy it, not just collectors buying for themselves. That floods the secondary market with listings almost immediately, and more supply chasing the same buyer pool tends to cap how high prices climb, even when demand is strong.

At $450 average resale against a $270 retail price, sellers are looking at roughly $180 in gross profit per unit before fees. After eBay’s 13.6 percent cut and shipping, that lands closer to $100 to $120 net, which is still a solid return for a watch that took minutes to sell out. It just falls short of the standout flip some resellers were banking on.

The takeaway here isn’t that this was a bad flip. It’s a reminder that the most hyped releases attract the most competition. Sometimes the better margins are sitting in the drops nobody’s talking about yet.
