Key Points

  • Mattel has started spinning up a new line of Street Sharks action figures

  • They cost $25, and start shipping in July

  • There’s actually a fair amount of hype around them, and they might be a good flip

Early this week, a new line of old toys started stocking online. Mattel’s Street Sharks are back! It’s been thirty years since the series first aired, and evidently now is the perfect time to spin things back up again. Maybe you’re a fan of the show, or maybe you’ve never even heard of it. In any case, these new action figures have been selling out and reselling quickly.

Mattel Street Shark Figures

So first, let’s talk a little about this show, because we’ve never heard of it before today. Street Sharks was a three season affair that first premiered in 1994. The show follows a family transformed into hypermuscular bipedal shark-men fighting mad scientists and rogue creatures.

It came out a post-TMNT wave that spawned other anthropomorphic teenager crimefighting shows like Mighty Ducks and Dino Vengers.

And 2024 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the show’s first episode. Is that enough a reason to create a new line of toys based on some of the characters.

First we’ve got Ripster. “The natural-born leader of the Street Sharks, Ripster is (someone) who needs no weapons except the ones he was born with; he specializes in bite-boxing and sea-kwan-do”

Then there’s Jab. “With an incredible sense of street justice, Jab is harder to handle than a hurricane at high tide. His nasty temper is feared by friends and foes alike. He hits hard and often.”

And finally we have Slash, one of the antagonists from the show. “The aristocrat of his evil bunch, this cavalier menace has a bio-engineered snout that touts swash-buckling style”

So we have a bunch of roided out sharks from a 90s show for kids. All of the figures have a fair degree of articulation, and each has a unique action. Ripster can bite, Jab does headbutts, and Slash drills things with his nose.

These figures have been open for preorder through Amazon and Entertainment Earth for $25. Orders are expected to start shipping in July.

Will New Street Shark Figures Resell?

Good question. This series wasn’t on our radar until this week, so it might seem a little odd for us to be talking about these figures.

However there are a few green flags here worth paying attention to. For one, retailers are imposing quantity limits on them. Amazon will only allow you to buy three of each. They’re also sold out as of this writing. July is a long way off and a lot can change in that time, but it’s still a good sign for resellers.

And most notably, there’s actually a pretty decent market for Street Sharks toys on eBay right now. The vintage figures from the 90s are still actively trading hands, so hopefully the new toys will also catch collectors’ interests when they release.

Street Sharks Action Figures for Sale

Of course, this is all speculation. If everything goes well, resellers stand to make some pretty easy money with zero effort. If these don’t end up reselling, well, no big deal. You won’t be charged until July, and can easily cancel the order before it ships.

In other words, no risk. While we talk a lot about the big profit items on this blog, we’re big fans of the smaller items that involve less risk. This is basically an item anyone can gamble on with absolutely no downside.

But we’ll leave the decision up to you. Subscribe to our newsletter if you want to be tipped off to more flips like these in the future.
