Monster High added two new Beetlejuice dolls to their Skullector series
The two-pack retailed for $90 and sold out instantly
Resellers are flipping them for up to $200
Last week, Mattel sold a two-doll collection themed around Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. These were extremely popular among Monster High collectors, and the midnight launch sold out in under five minutes. Now we’re seeing the dolls resell for nearly double what they retailed for, and a resurgence in interest for a previous Monster High Beetlejuice doll 2-pack. Let’s take a look.
Warning: some opinions inbound. This collection is a little creepy. These dolls are modeled on a genderflipped (?) Betelgeuse and Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Lydia is wearing her distinct red dress while Betelgeuse is in a form-fitting version of the tux seen in the film.
Why is that weird? If you’ve seen the films, the relationship between the two is coerced, problematic, and generally bizarre. To see it represented as a cute and funny pack of female-presenting dolls is just… kind of strange.
But we don’t really care. They’re just dolls, buy them, don’t buy them, we’ll leave it up to you. Mattel sold their Monster High Skullector series Beetlejuice dolls for $90. These were a Fang Club exclusive too, and highly limited.
They loaded on Mattel’s website at midnight Eastern, and five minutes later all the dolls had sold out. What happened? Who bought them all? You’re about to find out.
You’d think Monster High fans would understand what’s going on at this point. This isn’t the first (or the tenth) drop to sell out fast, and many of the dolls made their way into the hands of resellers.
Right now, Monster High Beetlejuice 2-packs are reselling for $150 to $200 at a time. As usual, prices start out highest right after the drop and then gradually cool off. Still, you’re looking at very strong profits for minimal effort.
And we’re not done quite yet. This wasn’t the first time Monster High has produced a Beetlejuice doll collection. Back in 2021, they released a two-pack of the characters based on the original film.
These have become extremely valuable since then. Following this recent drop, we saw a string of sales for the original Monster High Beetlejuice dolls for over $500 at a time. They originally retailed for $90.
Is there a lesson here? Maybe – if you feel like holding onto your Monster High dolls for a few years, they might quintuple in value. They also might brick, and you’ll miss your chance to get a refund. It’s probably best to stick to short term flips to minimize your risk.
