MTG's "Perfectly Normal" Marvel Secret Lair Launches Soon

Secret Lair is Magic: the Gathering’s way of releasing alternative art versions of popular cards in low numbers. They are usually themed around a particular artist or IP, and almost always sell out fast.

Next week’s Secret Lair drop is a massive, eight-piece “superdrop” centered around Marvel, and features ten different artists. From a special Hulk collection to a five-card spread celebrating the LoFi girl, this is a massive collection with something for everyone.

The Perfectly Normal Superdrop goes live at 9am PT on August 31, but the pre-queue opens an hour earlier at 8am PT.

1. Create a Wizards account ahead of time so your payment and shipping info is saved
2. Add any item to your cart before 9am PT to enter the pre-queue, which assigns spots randomly
3. Anyone who checks out after 9am PT gets queued in the order they arrive, so being early actually matters here

Orders over $99 ship free, and every $199 spent earns a foil Command Tower promo while supplies last.

There’s no secondary market data yet since this hasn’t gone on sale, so treat any early flip numbers you see online as guesses rather than confirmed comps. That said, Marvel Secret Lairs have a track record worth watching. Jeff the Land Shark showed up as a bonus card in last year’s Deadpool Secret Lair and drew real chase demand from Marvel Rivals fans who don’t otherwise touch Magic, a crowd that tends to push prices up fast on whatever card they want. Earth’s Mightiest Pets, which carries Jeff this time, is the drop most likely to see that same pull.

The bigger risk here is the checkout itself. Secret Lair’s US store treats every sale as final the moment payment goes through, no cancellations, no changing your mind after the fact. If a drop doesn’t move on the secondary market the way you’re hoping, you’re holding it. Check eBay sold listings once the product ships before committing to bulk buys on any single set.

With eight drops bundled into one queue and a hard cutoff on order changes, indecision at checkout is the fastest way to end up with the wrong set or too many of one you didn’t want.

Magic’s Secret Lair releases are first-come, first-serve affairs. Once they sell out, they’re gone for good, and they usually sell out fast. Don’t dawdle if you want to get in on this opportunity.
