How Lorcana's New Collector's Boxes Will Affect the Market

Every card inside a Collector Booster comes foiled, which is a first for Lorcana. Standard boosters mix foil and non-foil cards, but these packs are foil top to bottom, and the odds of pulling an Enchanted or Iconic card are noticeably higher than a normal pack. Ravensburger has confirmed the product will launch alongside Into the Inkdark and has been clear that regular booster packs and their contents are not changing at all.

The headline feature is Illustrious, a new rarity exclusive to Collector Boosters. Each set will include six Illustrious cards, and Into the Inkdark’s batch reworks characters from Lorcana’s earliest sets with new art and a serial number capped at 23 copies, a nod to Disney’s 1923 founding.

Maleficent, Biding Her Time reimagines a card from The First Chapter with new artwork from Kendall Hale. Distribution is being kept tight on purpose. Collector Boosters and their display boxes will only be sold through Ravensburger Play Hub stores, the Ravensburger online store, and select Disney locations, not the full network of local game stores that carry standard product.

The timing lines up period of major growth for the game. Ravensburger says Lorcana has sold more than 2.8 billion cards since launch, and the panel doubled as a broader roadmap reveal. Attack of the Vine is the current set on shelves, Hyperia City is next up before Into the Inkdark, and Cosmic Quest is already confirmed for Q2 2027.

A Beauty and the Beast focused Curator’s Collection is also planned for October 2027 to mark the film’s 35th anniversary. The Season of Villainy Challenge series ties directly into Into the Inkdark’s villain focused theme, and it’s clear Ravensburger is building hype around this release well ahead of its actual launch date.

Collector Boosters are not a new idea. Magic: the Gathering popularized the format years ago as a way to give hardcore collectors a premium product without touching the regular set experience for everyday players. The theory is sound: give collectors something to chase so they stop competing with players for standard packs.

In practice, Magic’s Collector Boosters have also produced restock day chaos, four figure eBay sales on individual cards, and accusations that local shops mark product up well past MSRP once demand kicks in. Ravensburger clearly knows the reputation this format carries. The company pulled its own leaked product image back in June and issued a statement promising the new packs wouldn’t take anything away from the standard booster experience.

Into the Inkdark is still months from release, so there’s no sold data to point to yet, and any resale numbers right now are estimates rather than confirmed comps. That said, the comparison point is useful. Serialized chase cards in other trading card games have regularly sold into the four and five figure range when the print run is small enough and the character is recognizable, and Maleficent numbered to just 23 copies fits that pattern closely.

Limited distribution through official Ravensburger channels instead of the broader retail network will likely make sourcing the boxes themselves the harder part for resellers, well before any singles ever hit eBay. Anyone planning to chase this release should expect real allocation risk given how few locations will carry it, and should not assume early hype translates directly into a locked-in resale price once the set actually ships.
