Key Points

  • MLB has revealed a capsule collection in collaboration with KAWS, Complex, and Fanatics

  • Jerseys, hats, bats, and more will be sold, along with limited edition sets of trading cards

  • Pricing ranges from $40 to $650 for the merch, card pricing and details have not been revealed

Baseball just got the streetwear treatment, and it’s coming from one of the biggest names in contemporary art. KAWS is reworking Yankees and Dodgers branding into a full lineup of jerseys, caps, bats, and trading cards, and the timing lines up with the two franchises facing off at Yankee Stadium later this month. If last year’s Murakami collab taught us anything, it’s that MLB fans and hypebeasts alike will fight for this stuff, and the cards are shaping up to be the real prize.

MLB X KAWS X Complex X Fanatics Collab

Fanatics and Complex are behind this one, working with MLB and KAWS on a limited run that touches nearly every corner of team merch. Tees land at $80 to $90 and caps run $60, while each team gets two jerseys, with the lower tier priced at $275 and the top version at $650.

Rawlings baseballs and Marucci bats round out the equipment side, with the bats retailing for $400 apiece. Everything is stamped with KAWS’ signature COMPANION character and his XX motif, and none of it is cheap, so factor that into how much room you actually have to flip before committing capital. The collection is built around the Yankees and Dodgers, timed to their three game series at Yankee Stadium from July 17 to 19.

This isn’t MLB’s first swing at a streetwear crossover. The league ran a similar collab with Takashi Murakami last year that turned into one of the bigger flips of the season, and the early signs here point to something even bigger given KAWS’ reach outside the sneaker and art world.

MLB X KAWS Topps Trading Cards

The apparel will move, but the Topps trading cards are the item to watch. Full checklist and pricing details haven’t dropped yet, but preview images already show Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Yankees captain Aaron Judge on cards featuring a distinct colored border with KAWS’ XX printed in the upper right corner. The set leans heavily on the two featured franchises, though at least one card featuring Reds star Elly De La Cruz has been confirmed, so the checklist likely reaches beyond just New York and Los Angeles.

Multiple parallels are expected, and Topps has confirmed randomly inserted autographs from both KAWS and the players featured in the set. Pulling a signed Judge or Yamamoto alongside a KAWS auto insert is exactly the kind of chase card that drives this category, and it gives the set two separate autograph angles to hunt instead of just one.

Why Resellers are Excited

Baseball card demand has been climbing over the last few years, and this collection is stacking a lot of heat on top of that trend. MLB’s Murakami collaboration sold out fast last year and settled into resale prices well above retail, and that set didn’t have anywhere near the crossover pull that KAWS carries.

Murakami Topps Trading Cards for Sale

Add in the cultural weight of the Yankees and Dodgers, easily the biggest names in the sport globally, and a KAWS stamp that regularly pulls in buyers who couldn’t name a single player on either roster, and the setup looks strong across the board. For resellers, this is a home run, a slam dunk, a field goal, and whatever the hell you call scoring a point in cricket all rolled into one. Expect to see almost everything from this collection reselling for a profit.

Bottom Line

The collection debuts in person at Fanatics Fest NYC, running July 16 through 19, and at the Yankees team store starting July 16. The full lineup, including the cards, goes live globally on July 20 through Complex.com, the Complex app, Fanatics.com, MLBShop.com, and Nike.com. Dodgers team stores pick it up July 20 as well, with the Dodger Stadium store adding it July 31.

Complex’s release also references “select team stores” carrying pieces of the collection without naming which ones. That’s worth tracking closely. If certain markets end up shut out while others get the drop, resellers outside the participating footprint could find sold out product sitting untouched at a store a few states away.

Nothing here is confirmed final sale yet, but neither Fanatics nor Complex has published a return policy specific to this collection, so treat anything you buy purely to flip as a risk until that’s clarified. The $650 jersey and $400 bats also raise the stakes if something doesn’t move.

High retail prices mean a smaller resale multiple still ties up real capital, and after eBay fees you’ll want a clear buyer lined up before dropping that kind of money on a speculative flip. The trading cards are already attracting the most attention, and securing a pack (or box) will be very difficult. If you’re attending Fanatics Fest or any of the games in the upcoming series, this is worth the effort. We wouldn’t be surprised to see these cards selling for over $1,000 after they drop.
