Key Points

  • Green Day’s 20th “American Idiot” Anniversary collection included a branded Keurig

  • These were $160 and sold out fast

  • Resellers are asking for upwards of $400 for them

Earlier this week, Green Day announced an unexpected collaboration with Keurig. Yes, that Keurig. A limited number of “American Idiot” themed Keurig coffee brewers were produced in a partnership with Punk Bunny Coffee. Green Day fans and coffee fiends were both caught off guard, and these coffee machines sold out fast. We’ve now seen several of them go up for sale online, with at least one confirmed sale through eBay for nearly double what they originally retailed for.

Green Day Punk Bunny Collection

If you didn’t know, Green Day’s “American Idiot” turns 20 years old in September. This is a big milestone for the mostly Gen-X members of the band’s fanbase who are finally realizing how old they are.

To celebrate, Green Day linked up with Punk Bunny Coffee for a new line of cashgrabs highly collectable bespoke merchandise. Because what says “aging punk rocker” like 100% organic, fair trade Honduran dark roast.

And in between all the coffee, Green Day also lent their brand to a limited edition line of “American Idiot” Keurig coffee brewers. Considering the band’s public attitudes towards pollution and environmental conservation, stamping their name on one of the most wasteful products of our generation is almost laughably ironic.

Anything for a buck though, right? Maybe the “Green” in their name represents more than just weed. Not that we’re criticizing though. As weird as this collaboration was, it seems to be pretty well received and sold out very fast.

Green Day “American Idiot” Keurigs cost $160, and were available either through Punk Bunny Coffee or Keurig’s website. Also included was a Punk Bunny X Green Day tumbler.

Hopefully you can read the writing on the wall. When a celebrity-branded product sells out fast and generates hype online, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing it appear on eBay.

Right now, resellers are asking for upwards of $400 for their Green Day “American Idiot” Keurig coffee makers. Whether they’ll actually get that price remains to be seen, but at least one seller has managed to flip theirs for $280.

Green Day Keurig for Sale

Hey, that’s pretty good. At $160, this seller likely made at least $100 or so in profit after shipping and fees. Selling local is always ideal for bulkier items like these, but it might be hard to actually move them for a profit considering how niche they are.

What do you think? In our opinion, there’s no product out there that’s too stupid to flip. Seriously, in the last year and a half we’ve covered products like collectable fast food currency, penis-shaped menorahs, even $3,000 IKEA rugs.

What these all have in common is that there’s someone out there willing to pay more than you did to get their hands on them. At the end of the day, that’s all you really need to make a profit. If you want to learn about other reselling opportunities as they come up, subscribe to our newsletter.
