Early Dune 3 IMAX 70mm Tickets Resell for $100+

Insiders can now buy seats to the December 14 screenings in IMAX 70mm, a format expanding to standard IMAX and digital IMAX the following day, and to other premium large formats by December 17. The actual theatrical release, where the film goes head to head with Avengers: Doomsday, is still December 18.

This is the same theater-crashing playbook resellers ran on Dune: Part Two ran in 2024, and the one that repeated when Dune: Part Three itself already ran back in April, when the first wave of opening weekend IMAX 70mm tickets sold out within minutes and immediately started reselling for hundreds of dollars. Warner Bros. clearly noticed that worked.

Fans reported lines wrapping around the block outside AMC Lincoln Square in New York before tickets even went on sale, and both the AMC and Cineplex apps reportedly crashed under the traffic. One moviegoer online described an early showing selling out in eight minutes, a ticket vanishing from their cart mid-checkout, and getting temporarily locked out of a theater’s booking page entirely.

Given how fast this moved in April, it is no surprise the resale listings followed just as quickly. Back then, opening weekend 70mm tickets that retailed for around $53 were reselling for $100 to $250 on eBay within the same day, with bundled listings occasionally climbing into the hundreds or low thousands. That pattern is already playing out again. A pair of tickets to a December 18 IMAX 70mm showing in New York is currently listed at $400, or $200 a seat, and that is before the December 14 insider screenings themselves show up in meaningful volume on the resale market.

Only 30-some theaters worldwide can even project true IMAX 70mm film, and Dune: Part Three is one of the rare productions actually shot with IMAX film cameras rather than just formatted for the screens after the fact. Combine that hardware scarcity with a trilogy finale, a director with a track record of packing IMAX houses, and a same-day showdown with the biggest Marvel release of the year, and you get exactly the kind of demand spike that keeps resale prices propped up for months.

If you were hoping to grab an insider ticket at face value, that window mostly closed within the first few hours. Check your specific theater’s refund policy before buying resale. Most chains treat special early-access screenings as final sale with no exchanges, so a ticket you cannot use or flip is money gone. For sellers, the demand is clearly real right now, but so is the risk if you are holding inventory you cannot move.
