Key Points

  • Build-a-Bear dropped their Emo Axolotl as a surprise on April 1

  • They were $45 and massively popular

  • Resellers quickly began flipping them for upwards of $250

Crank up that MCR and put those Vans on, because there’s a new plush at Build-a-Bear Workshop. Or at least, there was. Build-a-Bear dropped their Emo Axolotl plush on April 1, and the available stock sold out unbelievably fast. This might be one of the most popular plushes BABW has produced in the last few years, and it’s no surprise to see them reselling for up to seven times what they retailed for. Let’s get into it.

Emo Axolotl Build-a-Bear Stuffed Plush

The late aughts were a special time. Tumblr. Dubstep. The Nintendo Wii. If you’re yearning for simpler times; girls with plastic feathers in their hair and text message signatures, Build-a-Bear can take you there.

The company dropped their Emo Axolotl plush yesterday morning. It might have seemed like an April Fools joke, but it turned out these plushes were very real and very popular.

As you can probably surmise, these are a grayscale, emo-ified version of their existing Axolotl plush, sporting a black swoosh of a hairstyle and decked out in a black and white hoodie to complete the look.

Build-a-Bear sold their Emo Axolotl plushes online for $45. It’s not clear how many were loaded, but we can say the entire stock sold out in minutes.

Build-a-Bear collectors jumped on the drop, and have spent the last 24 hours celebrating the new plush. The Emo Axolotl plush is trending on the Build-a-Bear subreddit right now, with every other post either being a picture of the plush or someone complaining about they missed out.

You know who’s always there to help collectors in need? These plushes dropped in limited quantities as a surprise, meaning a significant portion of stock ended up in the hands of resellers. For a small premium, they’re happy to get that plush into the hands of someone who missed out.

And by “small premium” we mean hundreds of dollars. After retailing for just $45, Build-a-Bear Emo Axolotl plushes are reselling for up to $300 at a time with significant volume.

Emo Axolotl Plush BAB for Sale

It’s still early too. It’s possible that we’ll prices for these plushes continue to rise, and it’s equally possible that Build-a-Bear will restock them in larger numbers to satisfy demand.

Still, money is money. Because of how popular these have been, we’d recommend all our readers to spring on any future restock of the Build-a-Bear Emo Axolotl plush. Even if prices come down, we’d expect them to still be quite profitable.
