Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have an album coming soon
Signed CD versions were sold online for $14
Resellers have flipped them for up to $75
Back to the fun and profitable world of music. Selena Gomez is all set to release her first album with her fiancee Benny Blanco titled “I Said I Love You First.” While the launch date is still a few weeks away, preorders have already opened. In addition to the standard streaming and vinyl options, Gomez and Blanco also sold a limited number of signed CDs. These were a big hit with fans, and after selling out online they’ve reappeared on eBay at a remarkable premium.
It’s been a fun couple of years for Selena Gomez. She’s spent more time acting than in the studio, appearing in the hit show “Only Murders in the Building” and working with Apple TV for a documentary about her life and career.
But she’s made it clear that she’s not done making music. After getting engaged to Benny Blanco in December, the pair are all set to release their first joint album: “I Said I Love You First.” The record is set to be released later this month, with a supporting single from Gracie Abrams.
Who doesn’t love a nice, sappy love album. They might’ve missed Valentine’s Day, but the fans don’t care. Preorders for “I Said I Love You First” opened during the week, with multiple vinyl variants, CDs, and merchandise being sold through Gomez’ website.
And one of these drops caught the eyes of resellers. In addition to all the standard fan-milking fare, Gomez and Blanco sold a limited number of “I Said I Love You First” signed CDs.
Signed merch is always attractive to a reseller. It’s desirable, collectable, and inherently limited (as long as the artist isn’t using an Autopen). We’re not sure how many copies were available for preorder, but they sold out pretty fast.
Where do we go from here? Straight to eBay, obviously. If you’re a Selena Gomez/Benny Blanco superfan that missed the preorder window, what choice do you have but to find a scalper and fork over some cash for a CD.
Right now, signed “I Said I Love You First” CDs are reselling for around $75. There haven’t been a ton of sales yet, but it’s still early.
We’re seeing more and more artists move away from signed vinyl and back to CDs lately. Alongside cassettes, they’ve become a popular retro option for fans and collectors to put on the shelf. Yes, we just called CDs retro. If that makes you feel old, well, you might be old.
Anyways, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter if you want to learn more about reselling. We cover all kinds of profitable flips, but you won’t hear about any of them if you’re not subscribed.
