Batman collectors have a new grail to chase, and it comes with a catch. Funko is dropping an ultra-limited black and white comic cover figure through a random drawing, and the tiny production run alone makes this one of the tighter releases DC fans will see all year. This looks like a juicy flip, but it also carries more risks than we’d like to see. Let’s get into it.

Black and White Comic Cover Batman Funko Pop

The Pop! Comic Covers Batman (Black and White) puts Batman in a crouched, ready-to-strike pose rendered entirely in black and white, framed against the cover art of Detective Comics Batman: The Beginning of Tomorrow #0. It ships in a hard acrylic display case and carries Funko’s “Grail” designation, its third-highest rarity tier. Consequently, this one is exclusively sold via lottery.

Entries open at 9 AM PT (12 PM ET) tomorrow, August 4, exclusively through Funko’s website. Buyers need a Funko Fan Rewards account with payment information already on file to enter.

Note that Funko runs their limited edition lotteries a little differently than you might be used to. Rather than emailing winners a purchase link, Funko will automatically charge your card if your entry is selected. It’s a minor difference, but it means you won’t have a second chance to decide purchasing the item after your name has been called. If you choose to enter the lottery, be aware that your money will be locked in if you end up winning.

That’s especially relevant considering Funko does not offer refunds or returns for limited edition figures like these. $50 isn’t a ton of cash, but it’s worth considering.

Will These Funko Pops Resell?

With only 750 pieces spread across the country, demand from both Funko collectors and Batman fans should be well ahead of supply. We’re expecting a pretty solid flip if things go according to plan.

These Batman Pops are the just the latest addition to Funko’s line of Black and White Comic Cover editions. Their recent Raphael and Iron Man releases were released through very similar lotteries, and are currently reselling on eBay for $100 to $150.

Realistically, you’re looking at a chance to double or potentially triple your money if the same buyers turn up after tomorrow’s drop. The limit of one-per-customer means you can’t scale this flip, but it does look like a straight up chance at quick profits.

The main risk sits with the lottery format itself. Winners can’t back out after being charged, and Funko has confirmed this release is final sale with no returns accepted. That means anyone selected is locked into flipping the figure for a profit or holding a piece they can’t send back. Given the scarcity here, the odds favor a successful resale, but this isn’t a guaranteed win and readers should only enter money they’re comfortable risking.
