Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Collector’s Editions are available for $230
They will likely sell out before the March 20 release date
Past AC collector’s editions have resold for $100+ above retail
There’s just a few weeks left until Ubisoft launches Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. As is typical with AAA releases, AC: Shadow’s Collector’s Editions are on sale now, with a host of premium merch and in-game items. We’re expecting these to sell out pretty quickly, and it won’t be long before they hit eBay. The value of a game’s collector edition can range widely, but positive reviews and a strong playerbase are a big help. Past Assassin’s Creed collector’s editions have sold for a profit, so resellers are feeling confident about this release.
If you haven’t heard, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has been delayed again. Originally set for release in November 2024, Ubisoft pushed the launch date back to February, and has now delayed the game until March.
Shadows will be the fourteenth major game in the Assassin’s Creed series, following the dual protagonists Yasuke and Naoe through an open world set in feudal Japan.
The initial reveal of the game generated considerable controversy among the smelliest parts of the gaming community, who rebelled against the notion of a black samurai (although Yasuke was a real person and is widely considered to have been granted the title of samurai).
In any case, it’s a new Assassin’s Creed game, and that alone is enough for the average Ubisoft fan. Shadows will be the first entry in Ubisoft’s “Infinity” concept for the Assassin’s Creed series, essentially adapting the Call of Duty model where new games will be built on a consistent framework and managed through a single install in the future.
And as with most AAA releases, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is shipping with a limited number of collector’s editions. These include a dual statue of Yasuke and Naoe, a map of the world, a replica katana crossguard, and various pieces of collectable swag.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows Collector’s Editions are available to preorder right now for $230. The game launches on March 20, and these editions will very likely be sold out by then.
Don’t count on a restock either. Publishers don’t produce additional collector’s editions after the release of the game, and the current stock is all that will be made.
So, worth buying? As resellers, we’re approaching this one cautiously. Assassin’s Creed is a popular franchise with many fans, but Ubisoft’s recent AAA track record is a little sketchy. High profile releases like Star Wars Outlaws and XDefiant have struggled, so we don’t know what to expect from Shadows.
Review scores will make or break the value of this collector’s edition. We have seen past Assassin’s Creed collector’s editions resell for a profit, so there’s at least one reason to be confident in this release.
Collector’s editions like this one can generally be canceled up until the day of release, but make sure you check the retailer’s policy before you preorder. A full refund policy will make this a zero-risk flip; place your order now and flip it if the game does well, or cancel if it flops.
