Alan Wake II fans were able to buy a thermos based on the game from iam8bit
They were $30, and this is the second time they’ve sold out
Resellers have flipped them for more than $100
Last week, video game merchandiser iam8bit restocked a popular product based on the hit title “Alan Wake II”. These are thermoses based on an identical design seen in the game. Like many of iam8bit’s other products, these thermoses were extremely popular with gamers. After selling out in record time, resellers began flipping them online. We’ve seen an incredible volume of sales at very hospitable prices. A restock is likely in the works, so pay close attention.
In an age of Stanley tumblers, Hydroflask, Owala, and all the others, it can be easy to forget the original insulated beverage receptacle. Yes, we’re talking about the humble thermos. It was good enough for your grandpa’s coffee, soup, and whiskey, and it’s good enough for you.
If you’ve been looking for a new one, we have something you’ll like. Especially if you’re a gamer. iam8bit recently spun up a limited run of thermoses based on the video game Alan Wake II.
The “Oh Deer Diner” Thermos is the only way players are able to save their game, much like the typewriters in Resident Evil 4 or card swipes in Alien: Isolation.
These thermoses act as little blue beacons of hope shining brightly in a world full of horrors
You can see why players might be so endeared to a simple blue thermos. The product is a three-way collaboration between iam8bit, developer Remedy Entertainment, and Airam, a Finnish company that created the real-world product this thermos is based on.
With a 0.45 liter capacity and identical design to the thermos featured in the game, this is a must-have piece of functional merchandise for any Alan Wake fan. If you’d rather display your thermos than drink out of it, the packaging is also pretty slick.
The Alan Wake 2 Oh Deer Diner Thermos is $30. They were first sold back in May, exclusively through iam8bit’s website. This initial drop was extremely popular, and sold out very fast.
They restocked the thermos again on June 13. According to iam8bit, this drop was much larger than the first, but it seems like that didn’t matter much. We don’t know exactly how many were made, but we do know they sold out in under five minutes.
Hopefully your reseller sixth sense is tingling by now. A five minute sell-out time is pretty exceptional, especially for a fairly niche product like this. Alan Wake II is a popular game, but it’s not a juggernaut like Call of Duty or Elden Ring.
But that doesn’t matter. Right now, Alan Wake 2 Oh Deer Diner Thermoses are reselling for about $80 a time. Since the drop, eBay has recorded nearly 100 separate sales, some of which have gone for more than $100 at a time.
That is damn good. And while the limited nature of the drop meant there was a strict one-thermos-per-customer policy, it was a solid flip and no-brainer for any reseller paying attention.
Will the iam8bit Alan Wake 2 thermos restock? It’s hard to say, but we’re leaning towards “probably”. While iam8bit has been cautious about restocking their most popular products in the past, they have started doing more and more limited reruns for hyped items.
Considering they’ve already acknowledged the limited nature of this run, it does seem like a third production run is in the cards.
If that happens, we would recommend paying close attention to stock numbers before you buy. Considering iam8bit has sold out two times in under five minutes, they might decide to really bump up production. While that’s good for their bottom line, overproduction can kill the market for resellers.
Subscribe to our newsletter if you want to stay updated on these thermoses. We’ll be keeping a close eye on iam8bit’s socials in the next few weeks, and we think you should too.
