Topps Dune 2 cards released and resold for quick profits in 2024
They held a surprise restock this month for $50
Resellers quickly turned triple digit profits on the drop
If you were around this time last year, you’d remember Topps’ release of Dune: Part Two trading cards. We covered them at the time, and watched as profits skyrocketed through eBay. The company re-released these cards earlier this week, and we’re seeing a repeat of last year’s prices. Let’s take a look.
Welcome back to 2021. Or 2024. Either way, Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel was (is) a smashing success, raking in ticket sales and popcorn beyond what anyone was expecting.
And Topps saw an unlikely opportunity. In early 2024, they partnered with Warner Bros. for a limited release of trading cards based on the then-upcoming film, featuring characters like Paul Atreides, Duncan Idaho, and Feyd-Rautha.
The collection was an immediate hit. After retailing for $50, we saw resellers turning quick triple digit profits by flipping the cards for more than $250 on eBay.
It helped that the collection dropped as a surprise. While novelty trading cards certainly aren’t a new idea, no one was prepared for a full line of Topps Chrome Dune 2 trading cards dropped out of nowhere, and we saw them sell out within minutes of their release.
It’s been said, but you can never have too much of a good thing. Topps unexpectedly restocked their Dune: Part 2 trading cards earlier this week, and they sold out in mere seconds.
And when you see a product sell out fast, it’s no surprise to see it relisted on eBay for quite a bit more than it sold for. Right now, Dune 2 Topps trading cards are reselling for over $200, more than $150 over their $50 retail price.
Our thoughts? This is why you should pay attention to existing markets. Too many resellers wrote off these cards as a gimmick that likely wouldn’t return, and when they did too many resellers missed out on the opportunity.
There’s no excuse for missing out on triple digit profits, and RC Elite members were the first to get in on the drop. If you’re sick of missing out on opportunities like these, it might be time to join RC Elite.
