Starting as early as October, Target stores nationwide start stocking their shelves with that year’s holiday goods. 2022 happened to include the “Lion Menorah Candle Holder Gold” from Threshold, their home design brand.
The Lion Menorah Goes Viral
Thanks to a series of TikToks and Tweets that started trending at or around December 15th, the Lion Menorah started trending heavily, with many noting its resemblance to a piece of the male anatomy.
The Lion Menorah Sells Out
In the days following its newfound fame, the Lion Menorah sold out on both Target’s website and in the vast majority of locations nationwide. Before selling out, it was notably marked down from an original retail price of $25 to $17.50. This was likely due to Hanukkah having started.
The Lion Menorah Resells on eBay
A number of eBay listings ranging in price from $75 to $100 and more popped up and sold on eBay in the days following the Lion’s online sell out, with many hopeful resellers embarking on a sort of “phallic treasure hunt” to their local Target store, snatching $50 or more in profit in the process.
