GMC announced that they would be hosting a reveal of the upcoming Hummer EV as well as opening reservations on October 20th.

A few hours before the livestream was set to begin, a photo of the Hummer EV was unintentionally leaked via a website advertisement that must have gone live early. This was shared on the Hummer Chat forum by user Oakwood.

At 5 PM PST, the five minute livestream started, which showcased the vehicle and revealed that reservations were now live at its end.

Local GMC Sites Reign Supreme

Due to the overwhelming amount of traffic on GMC’s website when reservations opened, it was almost unusable. Thankful, local GMC dealer sites all had minimal traffic, and ran on the same reservation system, making them the easy option to place orders through. The cost to preorder was only $100 per vehicle.

Overwhelming Demand

Reservations for the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Truck sold out in only 10 minutes. It was later reported that 10,000 were put for sale total.

Deliveries Begin

In December of 2021, GMC began its first deliveries of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Truck. This rollout was extremely slow at first, with delivery order based on whether or not your selected dealership was prepared with new EV equipment.

Resell

Low Production = High Profit

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 Trucks began reselling as soon as they were delivered, with most aftermarket sales taking place in the $230,000 to $270,000 range. Some dealers attempted to charge reservation holders a mark-up, however this could be circumvented by asking to move your reservation to another dealership offering the vehicles at MSRP.
