A Blue RGB Mew Card Just Sold for $20,000

The set is 30th Celebration, Pokemon’s worldwide anniversary release, and RGB Mew refers to three cards inside it: a Red, a Green, and a Blue version, each marked R, G, or B/RGB instead of a normal set number.

All three were illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN. The colors are a direct nod to the original Pokemon Red, Green, and Blue games, and to the three primary colors of light that combine to make everything else.

These are secret rares, meaning the Pokemon Company doesn’t officially confirm them until the following set releases, sometimes months later. RGB Mew wasn’t on any checklist and doesn’t appear in the card list booklet packed with the Elite Trainer Box.

Copies first leaked around two months ago when streamers cracked packs early, reportedly from an unauthorized source in the supply chain. eBay actually pulled some of those early listings under its stolen property policy at the Pokemon Company’s request, and these cards were a point of fascination for collectors. The set officially releases worldwide on September 16, one day after this sale closed.

The $20,000 sale was for an ungraded Blue RGB Mew described as freshly pulled and in near mint or better condition. The listing was final sale with no returns accepted, and the card was routed through eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee program, meaning it goes to an authenticator before it ever reaches the buyer.

That single sale is now the only completed transaction on record for the card. Beyond it, two more copies are sitting active: a second Blue RGB Mew asking $100,000 and a Green RGB Mew listed at $19,999.

Pull rates haven’t been confirmed by Pokemon, though early community estimates put the odds somewhere around 1 in 20,000. That number will move once more of the set gets opened, but for now it puts RGB Mew in the same rarity conversation as the biggest chase cards the TCG has produced.

Pokemon’s 30th anniversary is a milestone the company has been building toward for a while, and the addition of an unlisted Mew variant tied to the plays right into the schoolyard rumors and discussions of whether the Pokemon was actually in the game.. Reactions to the card’s design have been mixed, but the mystery around it is doing exactly what these things are designed to do.

A first sale landing at five figures, with a second copy already asking five times that, tells you where collector demand sits before the set has even officially released everywhere. Whether that price holds once more copies get pulled is the real question. The early-leak history here is also worth knowing before spending real money, since it’s part of why authentication and provenance matter more on this card than most.
